Installation of Ubuntu Mate Failed! Moi's installation of Ubuntu Mate on his extremely important financial computer failed, which was NOT much of a surprise. Given the number of times that I have installed a flavor of Ubuntu, the fact that every time I do it, I end up with a completely different layout does NOT give one much confidence in the Linux DE. I was wise enough to first payoff my credit card balance. Hence, I have around a month to come up with something usable. Moi's superior brain came up with the solution around midnight. I waited till this morning for my second install, which appears to have worked. The first rule of computer security is NEVER set up your new computer using your real name. I have been using a dummy name for years that was actually chosen by Goodwill. The problem was that they had chosen a rather technical sounding name which made it appear that it was part of Linux, when it actually had nothing to do with the Linux DE. What is a little bit more confusion added to the royal mess called the Linux DE? On my first install, I had used my previously chosen dummy name which resulted in my Linux Mint configuration files being carried forward in my fresh installation, which resulted in an incompatible windows manager or with no window manager being used at all. How the Mate Desktop worked at all was simply amazing. So I had selected the rather bizarre description of "Select Something Else" during installation, which should have been called all along a "custom installation" or the ONLY method a person with a still functioning brain would choose to use. Funny, how the Ubuntu DE goes out of its way to fuck over new users? Thus, I wanted multiple partitions using /boot, /, /home, and /swap. Somehow new users are supposed to look else where for what they actually should do, in order to actually install the Linux DE properly? Now, the problem is that the "package manager" appears to be either not installed at all, or at least hidden. How is that even remotely possible? But, at least the "Software Boutique" is now working. So I am now at the "Mate Tweak" where I have to pick from a good dozen different layout looks. Huh? How come Ubuntu Mate does NOT have one look called Mate? Clearly the Linux DE developers are insane. Is it any wonder why no body is using the Linux DE from the Microsoft Windows world? I have must have installed a flavor of Ubuntu two dozen different times and I still have no idea what a fresh install of Ubuntu Mate is supposed to look like. There is absolutely no way that I would ever recommend the Linux DE to anyone. On top of all that, I suspect that the 32-bit version which I am using is doing a few things differently from their 64-bit version!!!

How is LibreOffice on Linux doing anything above the lowest common denominator? DFS showed himself to be a charlatan by claiming he would not argue with Klaus Schadenfreude via emphatically broadcasting 'score: -999' and then ambushing him using a 3rd party. A flaming bush that never burns, magnified by the reciprocal of the endless vastness of space, demonstrating the vast nothingness of DFS's so-called thought process. The full farce is packed of unbelievable gaps and relies heavily on DFS's 'vitamin D' horseplay. Fool! Hope DFS likes the housing in the overflowing armpit of my kill filter. I thought showing someone a little generosity might help the situation. It did not. What it looks like is what it is and not worth obsessing over, especially if it's better than the competition. -- I Left My Husband & Daughter At Home And THIS happened http://www.5z8.info/yourdick_v1o3ww_manhunter https://youtu.be/GPPqvw8iEBs http://tmp.gallopinginsanity.com/BilkHelp.html Jonas Eklundh

I am sticking with the Traditional layout, although I have a suspicion that it somehow has picked up on what I was using before. It has a 2-panel layout, like I had before. The ONLY question is what Menu Setup do I want to be using? For whatever reason, the "Software Boutique" never fully loads. It refuses to manually reinstall, because it is already installed. My how Ubuntu Mate is so brilliant - NOT. Why? Who knows? This software is pretty much a joke. Then I managed to manually installed the "Package Manager." Ergo, since I already know what software I want to use, I can now install any missing software, like "Gparted." It is using the Marco Windows Manager, which it is supposed to be using. Ergo, this Ubuntu Mate installation should work out. I simply need to fine tune my installation until it fails. If that happens I will give up on Ubuntu and install Linus Mint Mate Edition.

I worked my way through the various layout options in "Mate Tweak" and came up with something that resembled every major flavor of Ubuntu. I ask that if what you want is Unity, etc., then why are you using Mate?

It wreaks of "bear". I think you would like to get buffeted by that force of nature. If you're not already hosting a Clinton Cuban that is.

My view point: Even if he was just stealing classes from colleges, the feeling that acquiring expertise as being one of having "not anything" to show for it does not follow because you'll obviously have the wisdom to show for it and expertise is important for the future. Turns out Klaus 'The Moron' Schadenfreude's constant mentioning of Snit met the agreed on criteria of trolling, so he insisted that comment of his was forged by Snit. Already moved on from that. Keep up! Klaus 'The Moron' Schadenfreude has yet to show how Unity does anything above the basics on Linux. The teller of untruths does it every time. Then the torrent begins. Because the mama's boy just has to run to other groups. I do not grasp that. Crudeness is crudeness and there are "advocates" who are in agreement with it. Geeeejus! How did Flatfish get _so_ narcissistic he thinks everything is about himself?? It's like a crank call. Flatfish has already decided what he is going to say before he calls. What you say does not matter. What Snit (a real advocate) says doesn't matter. That's what Flatfish does when he gets humiliated. He always creates a flood, starts a cross posted thread so he can claim some lie. Don't blame me it was my left hand... and then he talks to his own post with his right hand. From what I've seen (which is none of it lately), it looks like the trolling nonsense needs more and more resources. -- Live on Kickstarter http://www.5z8.info/dogs-being-eaten_g0w7hf_molotovcocktail Michael Glasser: Prescott Computer Guy http://prescottcomputerguy.com Jonas Eklundh

No one who isn't just using you for wicked advantage sees you as anything remotely close to decent. You have no one but yourself to blame for that. He is as incompetent as Jonas 'The Moron' Eklundh. A constant, acute, posting itch, despite nothing to say - like slippery Klaus Schadenfreude camp followers, and vigorously-greased ram, stuck in a mud hole for his own personal purposes. But why the task to time a script via ODBC connectivity in a web based system? Predictably, he didn't suggest this as part of his, what would undoubtedly be, ever increasing 'specification' <eyeroll>. With no proof at all, as is the norm for Klaus Schadenfreude. After the latest update I no longer have to issue 'pulseaudio -k' every time I login ;) The whole buffonery is full of goofy inconsistencies and relies heavily on Klaus Schadenfreude's 'master's degree' horseplay. In fact Klaus Schadenfreude's lies were quoted time and time again. So of course I regret backing the trolls with their support for Klaus Schadenfreude. While I am sure his wife approved of it, I've not helped the situation at all. His wish is to see Steven Petruzzellis bothered by killing of any discussion. All that matters is Steve 'The Shill' Carroll gets to deliver the attack. So how to respond? Don't reply to the nonsense. Reason isn't part of the plan and never will be. Already moved on from that. Take it as you want! Promotion is a wonderful thing and consumer ignorance is even better. Linux is a false advocate's hero. Too much glue for you, Gluey. And in response you have nothing but an attempt to start a circus. There is no question that all of them are not automated because some of them tap into what chrisv said in very specific ways that underscore they are a response, not just crap.
