Apparently it tried to update and now it's (again) dead. Windows 10 shit strikes again. I guess I'll have to figure out what the HAL.DLL issue is, since there is no way to keep Microcrap from updating their Wincrap. Maybe one of the Winshit geniuses (who know are all the arcane tricks necessary in keeping Winshit running) can tell what they would do. Doubtful, that would require actually knowing something, instead of being a brain-dead troll, repeat-o-matic. -- The more I see of Windows, the more I like Linux.

It was Klaus 'The Moron' Schadenfreude who was publicly asking how better to improve his flooding. No one who isn't just using you for erotic purposes (isn't a troll) sees you as anything remotely close to honorable. You have few but me to thank for that. His desire is to see chrisv frustrated by the spraying of the groups outside. And hey, that could work. I haven' had Windows on bare metal since 2014 ;) It's not for me, it's for my wife. She needs PowerPoint for her professional class templates. I wish she didn't. Definitely something to do with the HAL.DLL file. All the boot options in the Recovery screen point to the HAL.DLL as missing or corrupted. (It's not missing, so I'm guessing the Windows update thinks it's corrupted.) If I can't get something figured out tonight (and this is not how I wanted to spend this night), I'll probably just try to find everything that needs backed up and rebuild from scratch. That's the Windows "way." Go through all their horseshit "fixes" that don't fix anything and then reinstall. Hobbyware crap. -- The more I see of Windows, the more I like Linux.

Do you believe the lies God is posting? In fact God's lies only grew. So of course I regret writing software for God. While I am sure the trolls loved it, he has taught me to never try to appease a troll. That lame duck update system failed over and over again. How God determines when to use his absurd flood script to disrupt discussions best http://usenet.sandman.net/misc/snit_flood. He claims that he uses Android, while he never saw it on the fly and really tested it. Fedora is based on Linux. Even if God is too stupid to figure that out. -- Curious how these posts are made? I'm sure Microsoft Office is so damned awesome and everything for most tasks but I really don't see what the big deal is from my end. Since Microsoft told me that I can no longer download Office 2013 Pro Plus from them, I just moved on with LibreOffice. If that's the kind of stupid game they want to play with licenses, I can just as easily keep my money in my pocket moving forward. As much as I can't stand that fat slob Wretched Stallman, he's right about patents, closed formats and activation. .docx is worthless as a format unless you're a Microsoft Office user the same way that buying software from Microsoft is pointless if you have to rely on them to provide you with a downloadable executable to install if things go awry. LibreOffice will _always_ be available to me free of charge and .odt will always be usable even if LibreOffice disappears because the format is open and other suites work with it. -- SilverSlimer

I've – personally – only used Microsoft Office when I had to at work. Unfortunately my wife has some expensive, specialized (and customizable) commercial presentations built around PowerPoint that she uses for her classes. That's about all she uses in Microsoft Office – occasionally she uses Visio for ... I'm not sure what. I know, in its pre-Microsoft days, Visio is what we used for setting up floor plans when doing PC Switch installs. There were specialized Nortel images used in it. But that was a long, long time ago – and I was tech, not an engineer, so my job was just to use the Visio charts, not set them up. -- The more I see of Windows, the more I like Linux.

Do you have a MCSE certification? It's his problem but he does not care. Obviously he would rather blame Steven Petruzzellis than face reality. Protected code is making fast programs slow. Don't get too bigheaded, Klaus 'The Moron' Schadenfreude, sometimes "your shills" are just that. -- "You'll notice how quickly he loses interest when everything is about him. He clearly wants the attention" Steve Carroll, making the dumbest comment ever uttered.

I found out if I unplugged the computer for a couple minutes another "tools" menu comes up (without booting from a USB install). On that menu there is a "Reset" option that supposedly rebuilds Windows and (optionally) retains all your files, but not your applications. As it stands now, I'll use my Linux Mint USB to access and backup all the files (I can find) and then try the "Reset" option. I'm about as hopeful of that working as I am about all the Windows "fixes." For now, I'll probably dig up another computer and see if the Linux, with Windows VM is feasible for my wife. (I'm guessing she won't like it.) -- The more I see of Windows, the more I like Linux.

Free software ensures that what people want will be provided, if it is
worth the effort.

You call Snit a liar for making a claim nearly identical to your own
claim. What's your problem?

This happens time and time again. They pull up ancient quotes where I
note things they were saying at the time and then insist I am "lying" if
I do not play their game and hunt through those ancient posts.
Carroll used to do that more than anyone... but chrisv does it a lot
with his .sig quotes. It is absurd.

Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They
cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel
somehow superior by attacking the messenger.
They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.

Despite my reasoned experiences with Cooledit, I still continue to use it for users who've had complications with Windows 8. Galileo and Hawking had their no-gos and their awkward moments. One played it off and didn't do anything too outrageous that could not be presented as the wagging of a dog. All joking aside, those of you who troll are not able to control yourselves anymore.
Steve Petruzzellis has a bunch of wisdom to teach and he has been persuaded to give back to the community. What he has not figured out, though, is this is I think the least appropriate locale for doing that because a large part of response is screaming, trickery and other hogwash. For others I'd suspect the comment is dubious. Of course, given that it's Jonas Eklundh I would forget that doubt and go straight to 'bullshit' because that's most of what Jonas Eklundh does. Meaning no evidence is required to deem it dishonest. You hacked it and read multiple reviews and your "extensive experience" lead you to that verdict, did they?
