Not update-grub but grub-install /dev/desireddrive and then update-grub
if boot/default drive is not dev/sda. This is on upgrade from 13.10
to 14.04

You are not understanding. WHEN grub IS installed many distros/versions
dont see the windows partition. You must *then* run update-grub.

Well that was the case a while back with my new debian installs. Perhaps
its changed now.

I'm not arguing the case for a LOST grub.

And those installers that "do not recognize Windows" would be?

You are the one who seems do be confused here "Hadron". Not me.

Melzz has explained time and again by now that he didn't install
anything. He upgraded from 13.10. Grub was installed on the wrong drive.
Thus my previous comments aren't any helpful ether.

At least I don't make up nonsense like "a lot of installers do not
recognize Windows".

Another bald faced lie by "Hadron" documented.

So you fixed it yourself by now. Yet it's still an odd and nasty bug.

Just when I was considering making my next computer purchase one from
System76. Oh well, it looks like I'm better off sticking to Windows
after all... even though that genius "Poisoned by Windows 8.1" keeps

Or Debian or any other. White Spurt wouldnt know. He probably doesn't
even use it for anything other than tinkering in his Mom's basement
after a day using Windows to check the stock on the shelves in Walmart.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Hardon, but I work full-time as a Linux
developer working on the kind of things you can only dream of. Of
course, your jealousy of developers has been well documented on this group.

You wont mind giving some examples. Ps I use Debian to develop SW. But

LMAO the GNU/Linux hating "Debian user" "Hadron" dissing Debian. The

Debian is simultaneously the best distribution of GNU/Linux I've ever
seen (due to its incredible insistence on ensuring that it is entirely
free) and the worst (to its incredible insistence on not actually making
sure that the experience is a pleasant one). Hadron has every right to
diss it, as a user, the same way you have every right to comment on the
penis size of the men you meet off of Craigslist.

I had Fedora, Kororaa, Sabayon (most often), Debian, openSUSE AND Ubuntu

I would take your word for it but if you had installed and used six
distributions and used them long enough to perform updates, you would
surely demonstrate less ignorance about Linux than you do.

Blame the user tactic.
For most people it only takes one screw up for them to send Linux
packing.
Unless it's a hobby and the person likes tinkering around and
experimenting, that person has to have a really good reason to want
