GNOME Devs to Remove the Ability to Launch Apps from the Nautilus File

I think that this is getting ridicilous. After removing ability to
display icons on desktop, this is another one. What this means actually?
I can't open video via nautilus any more?

I use mate on TrueOS. Gnome 3 has classic mode that mimics 2 and mate,
but I really don't like it, as I used Gnome 2 long time.
It's just that I am used to super+search instead of menus. Also with
dash I just click app so I don't have to super+click every time.
Alright, I used to do plain console until 2001, when I saw that GUI is
not bad, that is I can run terminal and keep GUI applications open.
Well, alright, now there is everyhing that can be done from console but
I am not only user of this computer ;)

I rarely use the menus. I generally get by with custom launchers
and the occasional Alt-F2. Sometimes I'll browse menus just to
see what all kinds of crap I forgot I had installed once for some
reason.

Plain console is very refreshing and peaceful. I drop down to virtual
terminals often and just do most every thing from there. If I need
a GUI for whatever, it's just an Alt+F7 away.

Are you saying that you'd seriously be able to browse your favourite
web sites from the console? I doubt links is able to do much anymore
considering how complex the sites have become.

There is a lot people do with modern computers where the CLI would be a
silly choice. Owl has shown image editing... but always in the GUI
(except maybe for things you can do with a batch change, and even then
to check the results you need more than text).

i recently experimented with a trueOS install and found it to be hacked-together garbage. did an update with pkg (instead of crappy gui updater) and i think it hosed the zfs boot partition. i can't be sure because even on the first boot after install there were all kinds of errors on initial boot of the kernel (though it would still boot).

i reinstalled with freebsd 11.1-RELEASE instead of the trueOS crap. the stupid sysAdm bullshit was the final nail in the trueOS coffin for me. why does anybody need this shit? you set up an admin group and add users to it... why the shit should root user (or any other user with "admin" permissions) have to re-authenticate after login to administer the system??

have any of you guys tried using fvwm as a window manager? ...or do window managers that can fit onto a 3-1/2" floppy disk not have enough bloated crap for you?

similarly, i quickly quit using gnome shit in 1997 and use fvwm on every one of my *nix installs.

I've never used fvwm but it looks like a highly customizable window
manager from the few screenshots I've viewed.

I use the Terminal all the time. I like Guake. F12 it's there. F12 again and
it's "rolled up" and out of the way until I toggle F12 again. And it gives
me as many Tabs (terminals) as I want.

I do like the "window shade" or "roll up" feature that some Linux
systems offer... and tabs in most programs is far more of an advantage
than I would have expected before I started to use it.

MATE is my preferred DE... at least for now. It is not fancy in any way,
but what it has works and is clearly designed well. That is more than I
can say for KDE. :)

Well, fair enough... but I prefer it for what I can do with it. If a
better choice came along tomorrow I would jump ship. Well, would likely
take more than a day but you get the idea.

I, of course, meant my preferred Linux DE. :)

If Apple transformed the cursor into something that looked like a
flaccid penis and double-clicking icons in Mac OS resulted in the
sound of a man having an orgasm (regardless of whether you mute the
sounds or not because Apple knows better than you do), Michael
Glasser, diseased vermin of Prescott, Arizona would still promote it
as feature which improve productivity and error-reduction.

Weak humor... and of course I note when I disagree with things on macOS.

Too much glue for you, Melzzzzz.

Where did you learn to program?

It was Melzzzzz who flooded benj's site millions of times and denied it. It was Melzzzzz who forged me and then tried to deny it. If benj has 'b.txt' open in a program such as MS Word and you want to change its name to 'mack.pdf' via a hot key, that might be wise.

cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel
somehow superior by attacking the messenger.

They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.
