Asking The Script Troller to apologize, which I have done, is distinct from spotting his duplicity. My argument was that good people come here in order to assail bullies. It is not like most do not quickly figure out what this forum is, Klaus Schadenfreude included. Did The Script Troller think that was clever? Do you believe the lies The Script Troller is spewing? What did The Script Troller have to say about this amazing support from new posters? Most of the time he would try to lead the advocates to believe they're "honest and honorable" posters who just happened to have a detailed understanding of the history of the group. -- This Trick Gets Women Hot For You! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100012978552519 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4xD43Khhkw Jonas Eklundh Communication AB

If you really mean that, good. > it was about conversion so my recommendation is don't try to convert > all that data. Just grab what's required to make it work on a base level first and > start converting it. Sure. There is a lot to the "base" level of dealing with posts that grew over time. * Determine if the poster is a bot themselves. If they are do not even respond (and perhaps block). For the old AIM chats this was very important. * Names: people responding to "DJMindFreeZ" are likely to use "Mind" or "MindFree" or the like. I would need a conversion. Of course this can wait, but given the variables in how people name themselves it can be rather complex. My old bot did a decent job. * Likability scores: figure out what raises it and lowers it. My old one had reaction scores -10 to 10, I think. * Determine if the content mentioned the bot by name (or otherwise). This was set as merely true or false. * Create typos in the form of letter replacements, skips, and doubles. * Check for and prevent duplicate responses, or at least minimize them (not including typos... in other words, do not even duplicate a response with typos with one without). * Think of different topics and how responses are generated based on topic and likability, and if the person has been speaking to the bot or not (multiple key words throughout the posted "sentence" and even based on persistent scores outside of the "sentence"). If the "sentence" uses more than one keyword determine how I will pick one (or, if possible and for common combinations, combine them!). My old bot did this well. * Track a list of people who are being actively engaged, and allow for the use of names OTHER than the person being responded to. With the topics I would start with just a few and see if I could use your idea of combining them. As I have said, I think in many (though not all) cases I could. I would not want to sacrifice features to push the content to all be the same, nor would I want to look JUST at one key word, and some topics are going to require a different process (for example one where the bot is being asked to do math -- it should be able to, but only at human-ish level). Of course, this is all academic... I have not used that bot in years. For your Usenet flood bot which is in active use you can use some of those ideas. I would recommend, if you are going to keep using it, for it to look for sentences and then to respond to those. Have it use the name of the person it is responding to (seems now it is random, and uses "real" names from the group and ones you have added to avoid too much duplication or whatever). For learning how to do it I would just start with that, but one BIG issue with the old bot was the scope kept growing and I mostly just kept adding to the code, never really re-writing much. If I were to do it again I would want to build the initial structure with the idea I would, at some point, be doing those things. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. If I had them, I could hook 1000 (or more) flat data topics to it and it'd work. Being that you'll probably never fully recreate it anyway, what would it matter if you just end up spending a few hours to see what's up? You could write a front end for it, basically just an input tag and a div tag (for display) and call it when you typed a response and hit return. Give your kids the data, let them turn them into usable objects like I showed you. Or show them the structure and let them write their own. They can play with it if you don't, kids love this kind of stuff. Show 'em how to put artwork around it so it looks like a robot or something with speech bubbles. Add CSS animations of him reaching for the meds ;)

When you say "work" I suspect you mean to have responses... but would they be the type thing which is likely to sound human to someone in a chat? The advantage of the chat rooms is LOTS of people are talking so you can certainly get away with some level of "nonsense" answers, but if you have too many the bot will give itself away quickly. >> but one BIG >> issue with the old bot was the scope kept growing and I mostly just kept >> adding to the code, never really re-writing much. >> >> If I were to do it again I would want to build the initial structure >> with the idea I would, at some point, be doing those things. > > Being that you'll probably never fully recreate it anyway, what would it > matter if you just end up spending a few hours to see what's up? Add CSS animations of him reaching for the meds ;) Not sure how to do this... would love to see you do it, esp. since it sounds like something you would find interesting. But I suspect your real goal here is to better understand how I was able to get my AIM bot to sound more human. You are a MUCH better programmer than I am, but your Usenet flood bot does not really sound human. It does not even reply to sentences. That is what I was telling you when you jumped to your "sentence" confusion. From my previous list: -------- 3) In comparing our bots I noted: * Sandman's Usenet bot breaks content into sentences and replies with seemingly random insults / accusations after some. It also counts words and posts numbers for its own internal tracking. * Your Usenet flood bot responds after the content of a post, not seeming to look at the content in any way. * My AIM bot replied to each posted "sentence", pulling keywords to get reaction scores, mentions of the bot, topics, etc., and uses these sentences to form replies. You took comments about that out of context and claimed I was lying to say my AIM bot did more than look at key words. ------- Without even focusing on your trolling there, it would make your bot seem FAR more human if it tracked "good" and "bad" people (have it do this organically, do not start with a bias as Sandman did with his "objective" scoring), if it responded to the name that was posting, and if its comments showed SOME connection with the posts it replied to. Do not change your bot now... I will look at the next few posts it makes and give you more details on what I mean. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. As long as the sentences and words used sound human, of course. I already showed it. Speaking of work, how come this GIANT MESS doesn't seem to (which doesn't even include the data! Mine, below does) ----- set someText to "replace me" on changeCase(thisText, thisCase) set thisText to "" & thisText if thisCase is 0 then set the comparisonString to "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ" set the sourceString to "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" else set the comparisonString to "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" set the sourceString to "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ" end if set the newText to "" repeat with thisChar in thisText set x to the offset of thisChar in the comparisonString if x is not 0 then set the newText to ¬ (the newText & character x of the sourceString) as string else set the newText to (the newText & thisChar) as string end if end repeat return the newText end changeCase on changeWords(fullText, searchString, replacement) -- replaces 1, case kept set fullText to "" & fullText set capitalText to changeCase(fullText, 1) set capString to changeCase(searchString, 1) set startWord to offset of capString in capitalText if startWord is not 0 then set textSize to count of characters in fullText set endWord to startWord + ((count of characters in searchString) - 1) if startWord is not equal to 1 then set textBeg to characters 1 through (startWord - 1) of fullText else set textBeg to "" end if set textMid to characters startWord through (endWord) of fullText if endWord is not equal to textSize then set textEnd to characters (endWord + 1) through textSize of fullText else set textEnd to "" end if set fullText to "" & textBeg & replacement & textEnd end if return fullText end changeWords set someText to changeWords(someText, " ppl", " people") Output: "replace me" ----- It should replace "ppl" with "people" but I don't see how it can. OTOH, in JS, and while we're at it, let's choose the ever popular arrayOfArrays to do it ;) Here's all the data from "fixText" that calls the "changeWords" function: arrayOfArrays = [ [" ppl", " people"], ["r u ", "are you "], [" ur ", " your "], ["your a ", "you are a "], [" u ", " you "], ["wuts ", " what's "], ["whats ", " what's "], ["wats ", " what's"], [" r ", " are "], [" y ", " why "], [" ne ", " any "], ["ne1 ", "anyone "], ["any1 ", "anyone "], ["any 1 ", "anyone "], ["n e 1 ", "anyone "],["u ", "you "],["ne ", "any "] ]; And instead of all that crap you have, that doesn't actually work, a nice 1 liner: changeWords = arr => arr.map(item => item[0].replace(item[0], item[1]).replace(/(^|\s)[a-z]/g,f => f.toUpperCase())); Let's call that bad boy! changeWords(arrayOfArrays); Output: [" People", "Are You ", " Your ", "You Are A ", " You ", " What's ", " What's ", " What's", " Are ", " Why ", " Any ", "Anyone ", "Anyone ", "Anyone ", "Anyone ", "You ", "Any "] Yeah... that unEnglish-like JS is a real bitch, isn't it ;) (I have no refs so if you test it in Chrome you need 'em. In the CrappleScript Editor, just remove the comments and set the code type to JavaScript)

Then again, you could not even get my code to run... and clearly did not understand it. Here, to make it more simple than I did before, enter this into the script editor: ------------------------------------------------- set someText to "The term PPL will be replaced, but the term PPL will not!" on changeCase(thisText, thisCase) set thisText to "" & thisText if thisCase is 0 then set the comparisonString to "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ" set the sourceString to "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" else set the comparisonString to "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" set the sourceString to "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ" end if set the newText to "" repeat with thisChar in thisText set x to the offset of thisChar in the comparisonString if x is not 0 then set the newText to ¬ (the newText & character x of the sourceString) as string else set the newText to (the newText & thisChar) as string end if end repeat return the newText end changeCase on changeWords(fullText, searchString, replacement) -- replaces 1, case kept set fullText to "" & fullText set capitalText to changeCase(fullText, 1) set capString to changeCase(searchString, 1) set startWord to offset of capString in capitalText if startWord is not 0 then set textSize to count of characters in fullText set endWord to startWord + ((count of characters in searchString) - 1) if startWord is not equal to 1 then set textBeg to characters 1 through (startWord - 1) of fullText else set textBeg to "" end if set textMid to characters startWord through (endWord) of fullText if endWord is not equal to textSize then set textEnd to characters (endWord + 1) through textSize of fullText else set textEnd to "" end if set fullText to "" & textBeg & replacement & textEnd end if return fullText end changeWords set someText to changeWords(someText, " ppl", " people") ------------------------------------------------- Run it and the output is: "The term people will be replaced, but the term PPL will not!" The first PPL is switched, the second is not. Again, I am *sure* you can do this very easily in JavaScript (not just that it can be done -- of course it can -- but specifically YOU can do this with no problem at all). But good to see you get as confused with my code, and have as much trouble getting it to even run, as I sometimes do with yours. :) -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity.
