With respect to xterm Tektronix mode:

Debian Sid -- xterm version 327 -- works. 
Debian Jessie -- xterm 312 -- works.  

OpenSUSE 42.1 Leap -- xterm 308 -- fails. 
OpenSUSE 13.2 -- xterm 312 -- fails. 

Neither OpenSUSE version's xterm manpage documents anything being disabled
with respect to Tektronix mode.  Both have Tektronix entries in termcap/
terminfo.

Unless there's a compelling need to break old functionality, I don't
see a good reason for just putting it out to pasture.  And if there
is a need, and the break is intentional, it should be documented.
Most likely though, so few people use Tektronix mode that nobody
has noticed that it is broken.
