No mention of Linux in either article.

Given the simplicity and highly dedicated nature of HDD controllers, and
the fact that their flash ROM capacity rarely exceeds 2MB, it's highly
unlikely that manufacturers would waste precious resources by using a
general-purpose OS like Linux, and if they did then copyright law would
compel them to release the corresponding sources anyway.

So, ironically, had these controllers _actually_ been running Linux, the
problem would have been averted.
