Democrats / Liberals have worked for: * Multilateral Frameworks: Spearheaded global standards like the UN's Palermo Protocol (2000) and expanded the anti-trafficking framework to emphasize "Partnerships" with foreign NGOs and civil society. * Economic Leverage: Utilized State Dept. "Trafficking in Persons" (TIP) reports and foreign aid conditionalities to pressure foreign governments to reform. * Root-Cause Mitigation: Funded global development, education, and climate-resilience programs to reduce the poverty and displacement that traffickers exploit. * Supply Chain Oversight: Pushed for corporate accountability laws to prevent forced labor in global manufacturing and agriculture. * Survivor Advocacy: Promoted "Safe Harbor" laws to ensure victims (especially minors) are treated as survivors needing social services, not criminals. Meanwhile Republicans worked AGAINST those things. * Restricting Foreign Aid and Diplomatic Funding (The "Global Gag Rule" / Mexico City Policy, cuts to USAID) * Prioritizing Border Enforcement Over Victim Protection (Decoupling Visas and Asylum, Ending Asylum Pathways) * Opposition to Labor Regulations and Supply Chain Transparency (Blocking Corporate Mandates, Weakening Labor Protections) * Opposing Decriminalization and Safe Harbor Expansions In short, you got it exactly backwards based on EVIDENCE.
