Actually, there is; it's called Spotlight.

Which is not natural language. The OP wants an app like WolframAlpha
https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/wolframalpha/id334989259?mt=8 instead.

Siri is a voice interface, designed to replace typing in certain
instances.  If you want to type, type in the appropriate application;
there's no need for Siri in that circumstance.

The big difference is that Siri does provide
a single place to input what you want to do.

The problem with the other text inputs is that
you first have to work out which one to use and
then enter the text into that. You don't have to
do that with Siri and so there would be a place
for something like that with text input too.

Yes, in a manner of speaking there is. It's called

You want the <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfram_Alpha> iOS app
<https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/wolframalpha/id334989259?mt=8> :-)

Thanks. Is that what Apple uses for Siri?

Part of. WolframAlpha is as good a general natural language search as
I've run across. Worthwhile if one wants to avoid speaking to Siri, or
as is common - has trouble getting Siri to understand them, with accents
and noisy environments being common issues.

Hope it helps you out. The web version is free, BTW. So you can try it
out for yourself.

Yep, its web site search is nice and is what I wanted Siri to do when
typing in iOS. Too bad Wolfram|Alpha's iOS app isn't free. :( I wonder
if there are any more like these in iOS apps, but for free.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure the WolframAlpha iOS app *used* to be free. I
have a copy on my iOS devices, and I'm pretty sure I didn't pay for it.
Then again, I've had it a *long* time now.

Same here, but now it's $3.99

$2.99?

Well, that's what I see.

You're not wrong, but it is now a modest fee. Worth it IMO :-)
