| Message-ID | <ldCdna2Rvbem3b3InZ2dnUU7-bWdnZ2d@earthlink.com> |
Hello.
Is there a way to not to talk to Siri with voices in iPhone 4S and iPad
Air with its iOS v8.2? Like just type directly? I know one can just talk
whatever first and then type, but what about skipping the talk whatever
step and just type directly to Siri?
Thank you in advance. :)

If you want to do a web search, and refuse to use your voice to do it, wouldn't you simply swipe down from the middle and search in Spotlight, for instance? -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. The same thing as verbally like questions, requests, etc.

I typed "find local movie theaters", but it didn't reveal them (only
showed "Search Web", "Search Wikipedia", etc.).

Yep, while a lot of commands will work through a spotlight search, ones that require Siri's artificial intelligence won't. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Strange. Just for kicks I asked Siri the same question and she came back with 6. I know that asking for specific names works. I was in an area away from my home looking for a drug store and asked "where is the nearest Walgreen's"? She came back with "there's one zero miles to your north". I was at a red light facing east....looked to my left, and there it was. :;-)

I know there are Walgreen's around here, but mine failed to show any
after manually typing "where is the nearest Walgreen's?" into Spotlight
search. I also tried other local places like Costco. :( Did I missed
something?

Rather than a vague "Where is the nearest Walgreen's" use something like "Walgreen [MyCity] USA" where [MyCity] is the actual name of your city or suburb ... depending on the name of your city, it may even be less letters for the terminally lazy to type. Even better simply go to walgreens.com and they will no doubt have a branch finder on their website.

Brilliant. Try doing that from behind the wheel of your car. We get it that you don't like Siri, but it has it's virtues.

You may also be able to search the Maps app.

I manually entered "Where is the nearest Walgreens?" and got "Search
Web" and "Search Wikipedia" results. I don't think that is correct. :(
Are there specific requirements (higher than 4S), within mile ranges,
or something?
