#47140 — Reconstructed searches on tablet computer

FromJohn Varela <newlamps@verizon.net>
Date2015-04-02 10:07 -0500
SubjectReconstructed searches on tablet computer
Message-ID<ae070$551d5b40$43da7656$2774@nntpswitch.blueworldhosting.com>
"Duesseldorf prosecutors said investigators found a tablet computer at
Andreas Lubitz's apartment. They said they were able to reconstruct
searches from March 16 to March 23."
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/04/02/prosecutors-co-pilot-in-germanwings-crash-researched-suicide-methods-cockpit/

QUESTION:
What would we do to prevent our searches from being 'reconstructed', and,
why would only one week's worth of searches be reconstructible anyway?

Use an iOS device. Since everything on the device is encrypted, only
someone who knows your pass code or has your fingerprint can access the
information on the device. For additional security, you can also enable
the private browsing feature in Safari, which prevents any search
history from being saved into the encrypted file system.

He did. Most press reports name the device

He didn't but any browser can be instructed not to save the history. I
wonder how long it would take Google and his ISP to reconstruct it.

Then he didn't secure it or the computer he synced it with well enough.

Are you kidding? Nobody could secure home computers "well enough" to
resist the attack that would be made on this one. If the combined
French and German security forces could not crack it Apple, the NSA
and PLA Unit 61398 would be pleased to help.

No, I'm not kidding. Secure the data by encrypting the entire drive/SSD
with FileVault. Set a secure pass phrase to log in. Disable automatic
login. Turn the computer off before leaving. Set a secure pass phrase on
the iPad. Done deal.

Copy the device to simulators on NSA supercomputers and crack the
"secure" pass phrase in, at most, hours.

How you have felt, o men of Athens, at hearing the speeches of my
accusers, I cannot tell; but I know that their persuasive words almost
made me forget who I was, such was the effect of the,; and yet they have
hardly spoken a word of truth.

Not arguing, just pointing out you are an idiot.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are
stupider than that.

I noticed that. I hoped you were rational and had some reason for
pointing it out. This is Usenet, you don't have to be rational.

Before I answer that I must know 1) Are you a commercial pilot? 2) If
