In the iOS 8.2 update, they remembered to turn on and leave Bluetooth on
after the update, even if it was off before.

Thanks guys!

iOS updates ALWAYS enable Bluetooth.

Yep, I saw this on iPhone 4S when BlueTooth was disabled. Bah!

Do you have a good reason to have Bluetooth disabled?

Since the battery savings from turning off Bluetooth would be
negligible, I can only imagine you have decided never to make use of any
Bluetooth-enabled features, like Handoff, AirDrop, etc. Curious.

I know you asked this of someone else, but, I'll just state
that bluetooth is very nice when using the iPad in the car.

For example, bluetooth to the car's speaker is perfect when
using the iPad as a turn-by-turn map routing app (e.g., with
Google or Apple maps).

Bluetooth is also useful when using the iPad as a telephone
(Google Voice + Hangouts) where people can call your
GV number and you can call them.

I tried to use bluetooth speakers to get Siri to dial a
phone call using Google Hangouts, but Siri is apparently
brain dead.

Me: Call Mom.
Siri: I can't make phone calls for you on this device, but,
I can make a FaceTime call.

Siri: I can't make phone calls for you on this device, but,
I can make a FaceTime call.

Me: Open Google Hangouts.
Siri: Opens Google Hangouts where I can call Mom, by pressing
the buttons manually (which is not hands free).

Because it is not used on this old 4S? Same for cellular unless needed.
I will switch on/off manually when needed.

Leaving bluetooth off is a very VERY silly thing to do.

You lose a lot of core functionality with it turned off.

Why turn it off?

Several of the many features have already been mentioned in this thread,
There are others. I'm not going to give you an exhaustive list, since
there are more than I can realistically think of - and I'm lazy like
that.

Apple probably enables it by default and during system updates because
you are likely unaware of all of the features that use it.
