Doesn’t work for the sign outside a commercial operation.

It is for a commercial operation.

Calling other people fools for using what suits them best simply because
it isn't what you would choose is immature and shows an intolerance to
views other than your own. Nice character you have there.

In contrast, I haven't found Street View all that useful. It is fun, no
doubt, to look at what houses or workplaces look like, but it often
doesn't go into parking lots (or the view ends up being of the back side
of the building I'm interested in), so I can't get the parking
information I would like.

exactly.

plus it's useful to check what the roads and intersections look like
along the way, identifying landmarks so you don't need to be distracted
by the phone while driving.

Street View is useless if you are driving and don't have a navigator in
the passenger seat.

Wrong. I am normally in that situation and just look at the
street view when I setup the destination in the mapper.

And if iOS would let you specify which mapper Siri uses
with the Go To command, and let you tell it to show the
street view as well, it would work fine when driving with
no passenger too.

you use street view *before* embarking to get an idea of where you're
going and what landmarks might exist so you don't need to look at the
phone at all during the trip.

I use both, concurrently. There are some things that Apple Maps either
can 't find or gets wrong, and the same thing goes with Google Maps. One
huge improvement for Google Maps is that it can use data from my
Contacts app on my iPhone. Before that, Google Maps was not all that
usable.

Having said that, the application I am using most now is Waze. It does a
better job of looking out for traffic/police, etc than either Apple or
Google Maps, and it not only can access information from my Contacts but
also from my Calendar app on my phone. It probably has an error rate a
bit higher than either Apple or Google Maps, but you can edit maps.
Haven't tried it yet, though.

I have Waze too, but haven't used it much yet. Thanks for the deets.

I found it was very usable, particularly for retail operations
where you only need the name, no address details at all.

The only thing I didn’t like about it was that you couldn’t
use Siri to specify the destination while driving around.

unfortunately google made that quite a bit less useful after buying
waze.

waze's routing is not very good but the street data is fairly accurate.

It is handy for commercial places where you can check
the street view to see the sign outside the place.

Its also useful when telling someone about some
particularly architectural detail so you don’t have
to take a photo yourself etc, just point them at the
street view etc.

Also handy to see what sort of area it is with garage/yard
sales so you can have some idea about which are more
likely to be the sort of place you are likely to get useful
stuff from when you have a choice of which ones to go
to first etc.

> So Apple Maps will do just fine, thanks.

But can't do street view when that is useful.

I'd rather use the most frequently updated mapper
which also has the best current traffic info etc and
which has useful features like street view that can
be used when they are useful and which keeps
adding new features like cached maps etc sooner.

It doesn't offer me any advantages over satellite view. I can do without it.

It's not very useful to me. Don't need it. Apple Maps gets me everywhere
I need to go without issue, and Google Maps sits mostly unused on my

So far.

And Apple Maps will eventually let you down like any mapper does sometimes.

It may come as a surprise to you that some of us have been using
computers since the 80s, before such maps existed, and naturally have
used many different map services over the years; but it is no less true.
I have tried Street View many times since it was first introduced, and
haven't found it useful to me. Hem and haw all you want, but you cannot
change that fact.

shucks, I'm a newcomer compared to you; I've been using them only since
the 70s.
