#35857 — Dr. Dre and Apple ...

FromBert <bert@iphouse.com>
Date2014-05-31 17:22 +0000
SubjectDr. Dre and Apple ...
Message-ID<XnsA33EB0D3B4133VeebleFetzer@127.0.0.1>
Donald Sterling was forced to "sell" his basketball team because the NBA
declared him a racist, unfit to own a team.

Brendan Eich was forced out of Mozilla based on his views on same-sex
marriage.

Paula Dean was forced off the Food Channel based on using
racially-charged language some years ago.

Phil Robertson was suspended from his "Duck Dynasty" program for
anti-Gay comments.

Boycotts were threatened in each of these cases.

Now, Apple has made a multi-billion dollar deal with "Dr. Dre," whose
words and actions exceed anything those others have done, and is rumored
to be giving him a seat on its board.

What will you all be doing in response?

That's no surprise. I was directing my question to the normal people who

I've been here longer than you and probably will be here long after
you've wandered off, trollboi.

Is it your normal practice to read and reply to people you think are

That's right. You'll troll around for a while posting bullshit like the
tripe you posted above, until you get bored and wander off to troll some
other place. Meanwhile, the legitimate members of this group will still
be here long after you are gone. You just don't matter much to matter
the "fanbois", and there's nothing you can do to change that. Your
juvenile trolls are powerless. : )

Best not to concern yourslef with things you cannot control. I'll post
if and when I feel like it, and there is absolutely nothing you can do
to stop me. Enjoy!

Nothing at all.

Beats headphones are crap to my ears, so I won't be buying them.

The "big" part of all this seems to be the curation of music (and other
things "cultural") by the "trend identifier/setters" of Iovine and Dre.

Since I "curate" for myself, I don't think they'll be too much influence
on me.

So, you don't think his arrangement with Apple says anything at all

It sure does. But rather than waste my time with a reply, here is a
nicely written article from the NYT that will save my time and probably
be far better than me at saying something about Apple.

Replace "trend identifier/setters" with "fad" and you have the value of
"Beats".

Hopefully Apple can get its 3 billion back before that fad ends.

paying 3 billion bucks to hire Iovine is a lot of money. He is perhaps
the only long term value in this deal.

When when people around Carly Fiorina realised she had reached above her
"peter's principle" and was about to be let go from HP, she went out and
did something bold (buy Compaq). It only bought he a couple of years
before she was fired.

My *fear* (just a fear at this point) is that Tim Cook has reached his
"Peter's principle". It appears he has trouble with the kingdoms at
Apple with Jony Ive taking increasngly big amount of power and ruining
user interfaces and I suspect causing lots of friction within Apple as
he takes control of other people's functions.

Back when Jobs was there, Jobs was THE boss, a very stern father who put
people in their places.

Tim Cook appears to be more of a manager/diplomat in a company built to
require a stern father to guide it (both from product design and human
interactions within company). This creates a void and people within a
fighting to get their power, but Jony Ive appears to have grabbed a huge
chunk of power from a lot of people outside his industrial design turf.

Instead of Ive waiting to get some experience with UI, he his pushing
his beginner's designs of IOS-7 onto OS-X. Welcome back to character
cell 1980s with "Lynx" user interface (blue text to click on).

Meanwhile, there appears to be nothing radically new on the horizon.

Could Tim Cook be spending our (shareholder) money (buying Beats) to
distract from the fact that he is no Steve Jobs and Apple DNA really
needs a Steve Jobs at the head ?

Apple doesn't divulge what's on the horizon - never has. So you'll just
have to excuse the rest of us for not taking the lack of announcements
as a sign of doom. It's cleat that won't stop you, though.

Or could you simply be talking out of your asshole as you have been for
the past several years you've been spouting your Apple doom and gloom
here? I'll go with Occam's razor on this one.

At one point, hindsight will reveal that Apple hasn't done anything
terribly new in the past X years. I think the timer still has a year or
two at most before such conclusions start to be reached,

And so far, since Tim Cook took over, the only major changes were
musical chair reorg with Forstall pushed out and Ive taking over
portions he has no experience in (UI).

Itunes Radio has failed to be deployed outside the USA in any meaningful
way. If Apple had bought some music streaming that had presence oustide
the USA, I could have seen some complimentary purchase to help Itunes
Radio grow. But buying this Beats fad thing is simply removing a small
bit player from the US market.

This does not mean that its current business is failling. Apple executes
well (and this is something Tim Cook has always been good at). But good
execution doesn't yield to big bang innovation.

iPhone was released 5 years, 7 months, and 19 days after iPod (2057
days).

iPad was released 2 years, 9 months, and 5 days after iPhone (1009
days).

The average amount of time between Apple’s last two revolutions: 4
years, 2 months, and 11 days (1533 days).

Tim Cook has been Apple CEO for 2 years, 9 months, 8 days (1012 days).

Tim Cook will have been Apple CEO for 4 years, 2 months, and 11 days
(1533 days) on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

Only idiots and trolls like you are claiming that Apple hasn't done
anything terribly new for too long.

Ah, but the iPhone was a stop-gap product, the original product that was
planned was the iPad, they just couldn't make it not suck in 2001.

Yep.

But the product that Jobs wanted to make was the iPad. They only looked
at making a phone because the iPad was impossible. Of course, it was
successful beyond what anyone expected.

Since you are out to ridicule me, I guess you don't bother reading my
messages. I think it was pretty clear that I stated the conclusion of
lack of innovation can't be made yet, there are still a year or two to go.

We you seem to agree with me, yet, you go out of your way to ridicule
and insult me.

That is not my motivation.

If only...

*YAWN* You have been predicting Apple doom with a good measure of
hyperbole and bullshit repeatedly through the years here, as anyone with
a brain cell and access to Google Groups can clearly see. And you have
been wrong up until now. I don't see that changing. You seem to think if
you craft your silly doom and gloom messages the way you did above, or
frame them as questions, people won't realize what you are doing. You
are wrong.

I certainly do not agree with much of anything you have ever said about
Apple, especially when you make thinly-veiled trollish statements
indicating at some nebulous time in the future Apple will somehow fail
to innovate, despite there being no actual evidence of it. You're just
one out of many Apple doom and gloom trolls. The rest of us see right
through you; and you are held accountable for the words you speak, like
it or not.

Keep on trollin' if you feel you must...

[unfortunately, the way you did that makes it look attributable to me,

My bad. Sorry about that, Alan.
