This is madness; the one truly awful^w compromise that tablets have is the
lack of a real keyboard. and now people want to convert their touch device
to purely that!

Perhaps this a better explanation.

When the tablet is connected to a much larger monitor...

Use the tablet as a touchpad. That's the way it is by default
(nothing new). With the big picture on your big monitor. That's
the way it currently is.

But...

Have a single place/button on the tablet screen you can tap to
toggle between touchpad and keyboard. When you want to use the
keyboard, it pops up to cover the whole tablet screen (still in
landscape mode). The main difference is that the keyboard is on
the tablet screen and doesn't show up on your monitor.

The idea is putting the tablet screen to better use when the
tablet is connected to a monitor. It's probably sensitive enough
to function as a standalone touchpad. And it would allow for
customization, resizing and maybe showing the keyboard at the same
time.

Just for the Hell of it I installed Air Keyboard to see what it could do.
Their server installed without issue, and it gives me a full keyboard +
touchpad which recognizes gestures. There are a few options for a
compact keyboard and some language options along with stuff such as
gaming input and Photoshop input.

I typed this entire response using Air Keyboard on my iPad with no
noticeable lag at all.

I also tried it with Photoshop, and it is better than Adobe Nav. I
actually think I am going enjoy noodling about with it.
