Not much to do with *your* penchant for kitsch and for point-scoring!

Btw, no one, and I mean no one, beats me in the race to be *last* in
the kf race. Yes, I know, this is yet another thing your simple mind
doesn't understand.

Here is another that would go past you:

Yes, I see you keep stepping further and further into it and making
your lack of a sense of humour more and more evident. How does one
explain such things to someone like you? I gave you a url to help and
it sails quite past you!

Are your own pics like that kitsch you posted a url to, or is this
unfair? Please stop taking so many pictures! You trying to do a visual
equivalent of a monkey on a typewriter that writes a Shakespeare play?

Look, even if you take so many billion pics every day and somewhere in
there is the greatest photographic exhibition ever, it would take an
impressive feel or judgement, a firm and admirable sense of taste, not
to mention time, to unearth it. Judging by the kitsch you posted, it
does not look good for you! Better to conserve your energies on the
mechanical and devote yourself to strategies to feel more and better.

Thanks for the support Alan. However, we obviously have two different
groups here, some of us have our feet in both, and others are blind to
what each can offer. That also goes for those in the photo-groups who
deny the value of mobile devices, you know who they are.

Since we all hold strong opinions, things get heated from time to time,
and many times that can be due our our blindness to the others POV and
fundamental misunderstandings of the other's position.

Michelle has her supporters here and I guess they will take whatever I
say as hostility towards her That is the furthest from the truth. If
she and her supporters feel slighted by my manner of communication, all
I can do is extend my apologies.
...but I stand by my opinion regarding the issue raised in this thread.

Now for the third time, (the Pacino "Godfather" line comes to mind
here) I am done with this thread.

That's simply nonsense. I'm not a "supporter" or an "opposer" of
Michelle.

She asked you what your opinion was based on. Instead of answering,
you accused her of having pre-conceived notions. I think that was rude
and lowered the tone of discussion. You went on to accuse _Michelle_
of being the one to lower the tone of discussion.

This is unambiguous in the thread, in black and white.

> If

"I'm sorry you you felt slighted by my perfectly justified actions,"

Your opinions about the merits of the images are fine (though you
could have been kind enough to answer queries about what those
opinions were based on).

Your opinions about other people's motivations, and accusations that
they lowered the tone of discussion are insulting.

> Now for the third time, (the Pacino "Godfather" line comes to mind

Three times a charm (actually, I think it has been more than three,
but who is counting).

Michelle has her very good points. One of her weak points however is
using high school debating tactics to defend her point long after it is
lost. She is tenacious.

Declaring that I have lost is not the same as my actually having lost. Oh,
and when I'm proven to be wrong about something, I acknowledge it, unlike
some other people around here.

In this situation, though, there is no "won or lost". It's a matter of a
person posting opinions without explaining the reasons for those opinions.
When I asked for his rationale, he misinterpreted that as a challenge to
his conclusions.

Later on, I did disagree with him about which of the two iPhone renditions
were better, but that was a matter of differing opinions, not a challenge.

Were the photos from the same camera, if not then what settings did you
change for each photo?
The middle photo seems to be better as I can see blue sky (but you may have
taken the other photos with an overcast sky.

The names of the photos tell you what I took them with. The name is at the
bottom left corner of the window when the picture (not the thumbnails) is
displayed.

The first was taken with an iPad 3; the second and third are the same
photo, one with HDR and one without HDR processing, taken with an iPhone 4.

The two were taken only a minute or so apart. There's a 4th, that has to
be downloaded to view, taken with a Nikon d70s.

That is a really good test shot. It would be great to haul out several

That would have to be a 3, the 2 doesn't shoot at those dimensions.

(really, the camera on the 2 is not worth calling a camera, much like
the first few iPhones).

I agree; the main use for the iPad 2 camera is for photographing objects
for record keeping such as putting photos of objects in inventory database.

Well, if you saw someone taking photos with an iPad then someone uses
their iPad as a camera :)

If you mean, would someone who was going on an outing in which making
photographs was an important part of the outing (taking kids to the
zoo, let us say) then I think that they would be more likely to take a
compact camera than an iPad. Someone who is not out for that purpose
and does not have a regular camera, and who happens to have an iPad
with them, and who sees something that they want to photograph, would
find that the iPad would serve well enough. Certainly the viewfinder is
hard to beat.

I'm trying to think how many photos I have made with my iPads. The
answer is "not very many." For casual use I carry a Sony NEX 5. For
heavy-duty work I carry a Canon 5D Mark III.

I have an iPad 2 and wished the quality of the back camera was better. I
have used my iPad as a camera to take some pictured of the snow when
standing at the back door of my house to show someone (then they received
the picture up-side-down). It was an easy method at the time. The size of e
iPad makes it difficult to take with you but I suppose you get a big
picture ion the screen of what you are trying to photograph.

I use a Sony WX7 pocket camera which can take 16 Mbps photos, the only
problem is it can be difficult to view the scenery on a small screen in
bright light.

I have at times. I had the choice of using an iPad 3 or an iPhone 4 to
take some pictures. The iPad has the same sensor as the iPhone 4, but the
superior optics of the iPhone 4s. Further, the larger screen made
composing easier. I did have to forego HDR, though; however, it wouldn't
have been necessary under the conditions.
