That varys. One obvious example is the two alternatives we
saw with iOS, the new transparent scheme and the previous
non transparent scheme that some like Mezei prefer for its
better visibility etc.

It also includes the Addons that Firefox has too.

I don't believe that that was the reason. I think its
more likely that they couldn't see any easy and
intuitive way to do either with the touch interface.

Inexperience users can't get lost in empty folders.

Its not obvious how to do them in a touch UI tho.

But its much better to have a well thought out set of folders
there right from the start than to have to reinvent the wheel
on the set of folders.

There is when it's a carefully thought out design which has been
tested and refined over time. No point in doing all that again.

And its much better to have a mechanism to create that folder
structure than to have to do it manually from a printed folder list too.

There arent going to be many empty folders there for long and
its a lot easier to delete the ones you decide you have no use
for than to manually create the set you do see will be useful.

But it makes no sense for everyone to be going thru
the exercise of creating a well designed set of folders,
particularly with little kids who don't have a clue
about even the most basic organisational concepts.

That structure should be available from the iStore
just like the apps are for those who want it.

chooses to use them. The user isnt forced to use them at all.

Because someone has put the effort into doing a
decent design and has debugged that over time.

Even Linux doesn't just spew a massive dump of files onto the drive
and leave the user to organise them into some decent structure.

Bullshit.

Wrong with a well designed structure. And its much easier to delete
the ones that stay empty than to design your own from scratch.

No users even understand the most basic concept
of the difficulty with choosing folders to minimise
the inevitable difficulty with stuff that can go in
more than one folder or the use of links for that
situation until they try to do one themselves.
