I have an Android Jelly Bean (v. 4.4.4) cell phone. My customers use iPhones. We need to share pictures when we are all together. Is there an Android app that is compatible with iPhone's AirDrop? I don't want to inconvenience my customers and ask them to install some app on their iPhones that is compatible with Android nor do I want them to post/retrieve pictures from some cloud site. Ideally, I would like to install on my Android cell phone an app that can communicate and share pictures with AirDrop with zero inconvenience for my customers. Am I asking too much? Ideas? -- tb

Ideas? i don't know what happened with this: <http://www.greenbot.com/article/2842420/google-copresence-could-be-a-cr oss-platform-airdrop-rival.html> ...It's not clear what Copresence does, exactly, but from what limited information is available the new feature appears to be similar to Apple's AirDrop service for iOS and OS X Yosemite devices. Unlike Apple's AirDrop, however, Copresence could work on Android, iOS, and possibly Chrome. there are also a number of apps that can do it directly (no cloud).

May I ask whether bluetooth file transfer would work for your purposes to get photos from android devices to computers? The speeds are fast enough for individual photos that they're transferred before I even finish selecting the next set of photos to transfer. I use that native bluetooth file transfer all the time to push photos from my Android devices to my computers and no additional software needs to be installed on any device for this to work. I realize the iDevices are incapable of such things, so what I'm asking is whether it would work that: a. iDevices stay within their self-imposed walled garden with Airdrop b. Adevices connect to any computer using industry standard bluetooth I suppose Bluetooth would work even though I would have preferred some Android cross-platform app that could interact directly with AirDrop. I'm slowly realizing that such cross-platform app does not exist. The Bluetooth solution is a suggestion to keep in mind. A friend of mine suggested using Dropbox. -- tb

If the guy only had android devices, that statement would be true that it's trivial to find *multiple* ways to transfer files. But, I have *both* android and iOS devices, and I will agree with tb that the problem is *never* the android devices; it's always trying to get the iOS devices to play nice with other systems. The great news is that the iOS devices play very nicely within the walled garden; but outside the walled garden, they're a cesspool. This guy is dealing with that cesspool and I sympathize with him since I've had to solve perhaps similar problems myself. To the OP: Everything you do hinges on your details since Apple has restricted your abilities tremendously - so watch out for the details because therein lies the rub. As just one example of where the details on the Apple side are a veritable cesspool of muck, take the simplest case of transferring a video from Linux to the iOS device (or vice versa). On Android, you connect the aDevice to the Linux computer and that's pretty much all you need to do. No sofware required on either side. You just slide your files from Linux to anywhere on Android or from anywhere on Android to anywhere on Linux. It's so easy that you'll see why I call iOS file transfer a cesspool when you try the same thing with iOS. On iOS, you connect the iDevice to the Linux computer and you can't see most of the iDevice's file system. SO, if you have movies in the iDevice, you can't get to them. You're dead on arrival. Then, you start stepping deeper into the iOS cesspool, and you find you can pull out of the muck VLC, which *will* allow you to transfer the movie, only with huge restrictions - but you can at least do it. If you switch off of USB cable to WiFi, you find *different* iOS cesspool issues, again, none of which exist in Android land. So, your real problem is that you are stuck dealing with the iOS cesspool. Good luck. On an *individual* basis, I have solved all the problems you're trying to solve - but only for a single user (me); but that's why I know that your problem isn't Android - your problem is the iOS cesspool. Good luck.

You always say that without a shred of proof. I'm trying to *help* the OP, by providing details from personal experience. All you're doing is trying to protect your decision to buy Apple products. Which means all your talk is only for the special case entirely within the walled garden. In fact, what *you* talk about is the highly restricted model entirely ensconced within the walled garden for *every* single user and platform! That's unrealistic, and, that isn't the OP's situation. Lining the outside of that walled garden is the cesspool that Apple creates specifically to *prevent* people from connecting to their Linux and Windows machines that don't have *any* Apple software on them whatsoever. > they've all been explained to you countless times, but you ignore it > and go off on one of your moronic rants. You can't even do it yourself *inside* the walled garden without the aid of hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of megabytes of Apple bloatware. You'll bloat out "nonsense"; but you've never even done it. I have. And I've proven that I have. Many times. You've proven that all you can do is defend Apple Marketing Decisions, as Apple laughs all the way to the bank because more people are like you than can actually think for themselves.

You have to use the right tool for the right job. The problem is that the iOS cesspool doesn't provide the OP with the tools that the OP needs. The OP has no problem transferring files. The problem is that the standards-based method that works on Android doesn't work in the iOS cesspool; and the method that works on iOS doesn't work in Android.
