#51012 — NFS client

Hi All,

I download files, I make them available on my network as a read-only share.

I want to display those files on my old samsung tablet.

What's a good nfs client?

(When I ask google play for nfs client, it gives me loads of smb
clients, ftp clients, sftp clients and so on, but nothing that says nfs)

Thanks.

Some file manager apps can access network shares. For example, see
Jackie Man's comment (#4) at:

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28954164/NFS-share-from-an-android-Tablet-device.html

That mentions ES Explorer (see note). I've read that Solid Explorer
(https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28954164/NFS-share-from-an-android-Tablet-device.html)
can do the same thing.

Note: I trialed ES Explorer but got rid of it. Adware that uses a
banner for the ads is tolerable. Adware that pukes out fullscreen ads
that interferes with using the app is intolerable. Adware that pukes
out ads when its app's screen isn't even visible (i.e., in the
background) is malware as it interferes with the use of YOUR phone.
ES Explorer would puke out ads when it was left in the background
(which Android will do by leaving apps loaded until their memory is
needed for a newly loaded app) which appeared long after I quit using
ES Explorer. That trial was about a year ago so I do not know if they
amended their malware behavior to show ads ONLY when their app's
  screen had focus (was visible).

In an online search, I also found mention using using "busybox" to
access NFS shares on an Android device. One of many busybox discussions
was at https://redmine.replicant.us/boards/9/topics/6759. However,
since that requires you run a script or command line to execute
commands, like to busybox, you'll need to root your phone.

nfs is a very poor choice for a mobile device (or in general for that
matter). one of the smb or sftp apps would be better. if those files
are audio/video, an even better choice would be to use a streaming app.

Only if you use Windows :-P

But his server is already sharing as NFS, so that doesn't work. SMB
would be a bad reason, for similar reasons as you have for NFS. I have
done both, and SMB is harder to setup.

not just windows.

you're assuming he doesn't have smb enabled, which is not a good
assumption. chances are it's already enabled.

nope. smb works fairly well, just stay away from smb1.

nonsense.

here's how on synology. other systems are similar.

Other than some file managers, VLC can play video from NFS shares.

for video, a much better choice is plex, which can also transcode in
real time if needed.
