Message-ID<pph3ib$l37$1@news.mixmin.net>
Is there a single online app or service that I need on Android, that I
can't get, for free, simply by being intelligent about it?

I can't even think of a single online service that I need that I would pay
for that I can't already get, for free, sans paying for it if I use a
modicum of judicious intelligence.

Can you?

This is not a first discussion about this topic, and, considering
the style, it nsy have been even yours...... The last time it
ended almost by a flame war.

Consider also donationware and free/paid combo, where paid
 version, aside of extra features
serves as the developer support.

The answer very depends on what one considers by "need".

In one extreme, you need not a smartphone.

In other extreme, you may need application, that has free
alternatives, but you like your one so much, or are used to it
so much, you do not want any else.

Also, some people may consider the a free one as alternative,
while others do not, as they do not agree ona particular feature
 to be essential or not.

I am afraid that as a general discussion, or as discussion about a
particular application and personal preferences may lead nowhere
 but to flame arguments.

I think the point is that for "privacy", you need to stay away from
"accounts", where the need to "pay" for things, removes a critical level of
anonymity.

If there is something that can't be gotten for free, it should be listed
here, where I posit most people pay for convenience, but not functionality.

1. For example, you can pay for You Tube Red, or, if you're intelligent,
you can likely get that functionality for free.
2. As another example, you can pay for an offline map routing app, or, if
you're intelligent, you can likely get that functionality for free.
3. As just one more example, you can pay for a given number of GB of
storage online, or, if you're intelligent, you can likely get that
functionality for free.

The only things I ever need to pay for, are those things that I can't get
for free - where - I don't need to pay for anything on a smart phone other
than my cellular service & the phone itself.

For example, I use a free VPN, a free email client, a free storage
mechanism, a free offline map setup, a free online traffic setup, a free
app backup mechanism, a free second, third, and fourth phone number, a free
voip, a free file editor, a free file manager, a free video downloader, a
free audio extractor, a free audio recorder, a free camera app, a free
video player, a free ringtone maker, a free privacy browser, a free network
manager, a free cellular scanner, a free fm radio receiver app, a free
police scanner, a free app launcher, etc.

Q: Can someone _pay_ for any or all of that functionality?
A: Sure.

But if they're intelligent about it, they can get all that functionality,
for free.

Given that I posit anyone intelligent can find free functionality to do
almost anything they need to do, I openly question whether there is
_anything_ you can't get for free if you're intelligent about it, that you
would likely need, that is related to a smartphone functionality.

If there's something that's generally useful, that you can't get for free,
this is the place to list whatever that functionality is.

For privacy, it is better to stay away from smartphones.

The idea a free app save you from lose a privacy level is an illusion.

Many free apps are free as it strips your privacy level, touching
privacy data in more serious ways then exposing yourself by
 application oayment.

I'm done with your childish drivel, Libor Striz.
o You are either an adult who has technical value to contribute;
o Or, you are a child that can only play worthless childish games.
Pick one.

Please don't post to this thread unless you can act like an adult.

Specifically, try hard to be an adult and read the topic and then
comprehend the topic, and only after that, please do list any common
Android functionality that people need that can't be gotten for free.

Well, this apply to yourself in the first place. You cannot
withstand people with different point of view to the
 topic.

I am 53, graduated in analytical chemistry.

As usual, it took only a few exchanges for 'Arlen' to start with his
dodging, diverting and insulting, didn't it!?

He can indeed not handle it if anyone doesn't - completely - share his
'unusual' viewpoints or/and doesn't bow down to him in utter devotion.

He's always the first to utter silly 'challenges', but dodges any and
all challenges put to him.

  Most specifically *this* challenge:

'Arlen', name *one*, just *one* person in these groups who agrees with
*any* viewpoint which you raise in one of the zillions of threads you
(think you) 'author' (and *prove* that with a verifiable cite).

> I am 53, graduated in analytical chemistry.

'Arlen' OTOH, has academic degrees in patheticness, dishonesty, lying,
ignorance, cluelessness, clue-resistance, stupidity, obnoxiousness,
pompousness, chest-thumping, nymshifting, twattery, paranoia and is
apparently 3 years old.

  False. Proof: The OP.

It's clear, Frank, that you don't have an on topic answer to the question.

Why is it always, with you Frank, that you can't comprehend a simple topic?

You, Frank Slootweg, prove to be the vermin that ruin the Usenet picnic.
