I sometimes dislike the current version of an app (like when they add advertising) so I go back to an earlier version and don't want it updated. I keep an archive of old Android apps I have used on my various Android devices going back to 2013. Surprisingly some of those early apps still work on Android 7.0 (and some don't). And many are bare basic apps that run faster and IMO better than their current versions that are bogged down with more "features" and fancier graphics (and ads).

So that's only one *version* update. However, having said that, your example looks promising, because Samsung hardly supplies security updates - I got only two - so getting monthly security updates is a good sign, so maybe Nokia will also be better with version updates than most other (non-Google) brands. Nokia has always been a bit special, so hopefully they're also special in this respect.

We - at least the OP - were talking about *version* updates, not security or other non-version updates. So you got one version update (same as I got for my Samsung tablet, as I said in the part you snipped). Fingers crossed that you'll get the next one to 9.X (Pie).

Language issue here :-) What I see as a problem is if the phone stays at 7 and is not upgraded. Otherwise, if the choices are one phone with Android 7 and another with 8, other aspects similar, I'd go for the Android 8. Version 7 is old. However, if the intention is to use the phone for a year or so and then buy another one, it doesn't matter. The A8 is a good phone. Motorola, which the brand I'm using, is more likely to upgrade their phones than Samsung, because they do very few customizations. -- Cheers, Carlos.

Depends on your Motorola. My Motorola Droid Turbo 2 (Verizon re-branded Moto X Force) is currently running 7.0 and was last updated almost a year ago (11-21-17). However since it still seems to serve me well what is it in 8.x that I badly need?

I have no experience with either but if you go to XDA Developers you should be able to read lots of comments about either. They will be mostly on US versions but you can still learn a lot about any problems a phone may have. Boy Genius reports is another fairly good source of information as is Howard Forums.
