I'd guess cumulative stress up to the age of retirement, at which point
they simply collapsed, staying unstressed only long enough to fill in
the paperwork! I'd also guess that this is an additional informal
benefit of pretty much any government union, so don't take it too
personally :-(

I'm talking about retirement at retirement age WITH a sudden disability
discovery. No idea how it might actually work.

I never heard of that. But like the 32 page iTunes agreement, I never looked at the Costco member agreement either. One thing, I asked one of the door guys who seems to be his regular station about the policy (I'm in Chicago, bullet proof vest is optional to visit the one at Clybourn/Damen) and his answer made sense. Basically they don't check for anything comparing the cart to the receipt. It's just them being there, making it look like they are checking that works. Sort of like the TSA. nonsense. he's spewing the party line, hoping that people believe it. stores that don't have door checkers do not have a significantly larger problem with shoplifting. and if they don't check anything, then it won't have any effect when there is a discrepancy.

Depends on the store. Most stores they look at the receipt, look at the cart, figure it's about the same, and wave you through. Some stores they just count the items. But sometimes you have someone who literally checks every single item. > I don't care, it rarely takes 10 seconds to pass, if that long. And his time-consuming and excessively anal-compulsive checking is what turned me off Costco for ever after, Amen. (Or maybe it was Sam's Club. or JB's. or BJ's. Whatever.) Thank you. But sometimes you have someone who literally > checks every single item. I've experienced only two different ways my items were checked when leaving Costco. Either the person at the door simply takes my receipt and marks it without checking anything, or the person counts the number of items in my basket and matches that number to the number of items paid for. I rarely have a basket full of items that is hard to count but many people do and there's simply no way for the checker to count the items. The whole process is a little inconvenience at worst but the level of customer service, good prices, and quality products I get at Costco make that little inconvenience meaningless. > >> I don't care, it rarely takes 10 seconds to pass, if that long. > Yep. >
