It is Android 2.3.6. Prefer something basic and free. Doesn't seem to be
any such app in the phone.

Its been a while since 2.x but as I remember I just downloaded a "file
manager"
from the play site and it worked.

Or download several file managers and try them and just delete the
ones that you don't like.

Cannot speak to compatibility because my phone is running 5.x, but my
current favorite is X-plore and I've been through at least 3 different
file manager apps.

Likewise on compatibility as I'm on 4.x but I use ES File Explorer
(com.estrongs.android.pop) and Amaze (com.amaze.filemanager).

My Samsung phone (T-Mobile, TouchWiz launcher) came with My Files
(com.sec.android.app.myfiles).

So did I until I read several negative posts about it's
security/privacy.

Don't know enough to go into specifics, but now that I have made the
changeover I actually find X-plorer significantly more functional and
easier to use.

I installed X-plore file Manager from Lonely Cat Games
(com.lonelycatgames.Xplore) and will test it out.

Pretty much I'm disappointed with each bloated version of ES File Explorer,
but I do like the file download manager which takes a load off the browser
so that the browser can be killed yet the file download keeps going in the
background.

The only other thing I liked about ES File Explorer was that it showed the
number of items in each folder whereas most file managers skip this
important detail (who wants to step into an empty folder for nothing).

Yeah, now that you have said it - that was another reason I was glad to
move away from it.

ES File Explorer is not compatible with the SCH-I110's 2.4 android OS.

Turns out, my sister just gave me an SCH-I535 with Android 4.4.2, so I
guess this question is now no longer relevant.
