#33615 — Updating apps with Marshmallow

Motorola Moto G #2. Whenever an app updates, its icon on the home
screen disappears without a trace, which I only discover when I need to
use it again. Is this normal practice, or is there something I can do
about it?

I believe that it's a Motorola problem. My apps don't disappear
on the Nexus 7 2013 or the Samsung Tab Pro (cyanogenmod) or even
the Nook HD+ (cyanogenmod).

Me either (Nexus 7 2013). I did have an interesting experiment the other
day. I had downloaded the Baen mobil app a while ago but hadn' used it for
several months. When I went to log on again I couldnt, and there was a
message saying that if one hadn't logged on since Sept. 2015, to go to
Baen.com and update my password. Well, I did that a couple of times, and
still couldn't log on to the mobile app. The other day I had a brainstorm,
and re-downloaded the app from the Google Store. Sure enough, that fixed
it. The interesting part is that I now had TWO Baen icons on my Home
screen, and after testing I determined that one pointed to the new version
and the other to the old. When I uninstalled the old version, its icon
disappeared, and everything else was fine. That was something I would never
expect.

It's not normal. FWIW my Motorola Droid Turbo 2 doesn't do it.

Until you find a real solution you could turn off automatic updates and
do them manually to avoid the surprise and thus reestablish the home
screen icon.

I did that a week ago or so. When I deliberately updated today (after
posting, of course) the icons stayed where they were supposed to. I
HATE when stuff like this happens!
