How do you tell your camera on your vaunted iOS device to store all the automatic phone call recordings offline onto the external flash card? What's that? You don't? Why not? Oh, not only do you not have an automatic phone recorder app, but even if you did have that capability on iOS, you don't have an external flash card, and, even if you did have that hardware feature on iOS, you don't have an automatic file redirector that can move all audio files automatically onto the flash card the moment they're saved to the internal storage. Are we done yet proving that there are *plenty* of things that I do every day all day on Android that are just not possible in the primitive and far more restrictive Apple Ecosystem? I prove what I say because I've done it myself and I own both ecosystems.

The question was that someone said it was "bullshit" that you can do more with Android than you can with iOS. I already provided a dozen or more things, just off the cuff, that I do on Android that you can't possibly do on iOS. On Android: You just do it. On iOS: You just give up. On the other hand, it takes a lot of brains to do things on Android, especially when connecting to people inside the Apple walled garden. So, for the kid in question (who is decidedly not technical), she will be *happier* inside the Apple Ecosystem because she has to think far less in order to communicate with others inside the walled garden of the Apple Ecosystem. So, "she" will be far happier with the Apple Ecosystem than a typical power user would be.

You've already said "privacy" to that question, which I don't disagree with although I note not only the lack of Orbot/Orfox anonymity on iOS, but also the ability to turn off much, if not all the Google spying on Android, so the privacy difference is not pure black and white. What other than privacy though can iOS do that Android can't do? NOTE: We already know the walled-garden tools don't work outside the walled garden, so if they're gonna count, they had better be something extremely useful that isn't on Android. Q: Other than privacy out of the box, what can iOS do that Android can't do?

But the question was what can Android users do that Apple users can't do, and using the phone as a hammer to hammer in a nail was what I was countering with actual facts, which you don't dispute. You can easily dispute whether "you" want to do the things I listed; but I am simply answering the question of what you can do with Android that you can't hope to do with iOS. >> - Ability to change the launcher to entirely change the look & feel >> - Ability to change the keyboard (e.g., the ability to define keys) > > This is possible for years by now! There is the ai.keyboard which I use on Android, because I like to define the location of the keys and to define my own keys - that is the keyboard of choice for me that I want to try on the iPads when the kids will let me have them. PS: The kids hate when I touch the iPads! Switching out their keyboard to test your suggestion is gonna be a big hit with them, I'm sure! :) >> - Ability to control what data programs have access to from other programs > > iOS does it the other way around, you can forward data from one program > to another one. Which give (IMHO) a much better control over what data > any given app has access to. I'm not so sure of the technical details here, but on Android, I get far (far far far far) more choices of what apps to forward data to (especially from ES File Explorer) than I get on iOS. The difference, if you have both ecosystems, is absolutely astounding. For just one example, if I download a 100MB movie from the browser on Android, I have it set up to automatically forward that movie to the ES File Explorer download engine, automatically (I only have to press hide on the obligatory download popup). And when that download finishes, no matter when, it could be minutes later, I can open that movie in VLC, in a single click, which means the movie is downloaded by the browser download engine and played by the video player in two clicks. That's three programs interacting seamlessly on Android: 1. Browser 2. Download manager 3. Video player I can't get anywhere near that efficiency with the browser and VLC on iOS. Why not? >> - Ability to traverse & modify the entire file system (or almost all of it) > > Not gonna happen, for reasons of the security design implement very > deeply in iOS. Yup. It's so empowering to traverse and modify the file system at will on Android. Mostly what I do is *organize* the files on the external SD card. For example, I *all* PDFs, JPGs, MP4s, AVIs, MP3s, etc., can be automatically *copied* (or moved) to the flash card, if I so choose. You just can't do stuff like that with iOS. It's like iOS is limited to a bunch of hand tools, while Android has both the hand tools and the power tools. While I fully understand how those limitations won't bother the kid in question here, I don't know how any power users of IOS "can" exist since you're limited to doing things without the use of any power tools. >> - Ability for free second-line telephone numbers such as "Sideline" >> - Ability to use the "real" Tor Browser Bundle and "Obot" VPN >> - Ability to redirect files & types of files at will (File Redirector) > > Unnecessary due to a completely different concept. I'm not so sure the Tor Browser Bundle is "unnecessary". It has a specific use model - which - for what it does - provides strong anonymity that even the NSA "says" they hate (according to Snowden revelations). How do you get a completely fully functional second-line "real" telephone/MMS/SMS on iOS (which connects to POTS for free) without the ability to load specific phone apps like Sideline? How do you do anonymous VPN on iOS? NOTE: You can do vpn - but I'm asking about anonymous VPN.) The file redirectors are *extremely* useful for saving "sensitive" files onto removable media, such as automatic call recorder logs. You can't do *any* of that stuff on iOS. My point isn't to "bash" iOS. I have both ecosystems - so I was just answering the question of what you can do with the Android Ecosystem that you can't hope to do with the iOS ecosystem. In terms of tools, on iOS, you're limited to hand tools, while with Android you have power tools and hand tools. The person who said that the only difference was you can use Android as a hammer was so ignorant of the difference between the two ecosystems that it's not funny. >> - Ability to perform wardriving tasks (such as what WiGle WiFi does) > Easily possible. Um... what free wardriving app do you use on an out-of-the-box iOS device that compares to the fantastic output of WiGLE WiFI? >> - Ability to *graph* WiFi signal strengths (the iOS solution is primitive) > Easily possible. For you to say that means you have no idea of what you're talking about. We've had entire threads galore on this subject alone. You are showing yourself to be a typical Apple Apologist. You provide zero proof. I have supplied proof galore of this capability (I use the free Nova launcher, but other Android launchers also allow any grid you want). >> - Ability to not clutter your desktop with rarely used icons > Easily possible. I can't understand your psychology. You know that to not be true. Sure, you've always been able to hide iTunes from the desktop, at least since iOS 7 (ask me how I know), and sure, with iOS 10, you can hide a few more, but the fact is that you can't hide any icon you want on iOS and you can on Android. What is it about your PSYCHOLOGY that enables you to make such false statements? Are Apple Apologists so used to convincing the hoi polloi of their lies that you don't think anyone knows you're lying? You seem like a used-car salesman, who lies to the customers, simply because most customers don't know any better. But you really shouldn't lie to me, because I supply proof of everything, and you can't possibly prove your lies above. I'll open a separate thread on why the Apple Apologists feel the need to lie to make up capabilities that just don't exist in the Apple Ecosystem. >> - Ability to have icons in multiple places for logical organization >> - Ability to create empty named placeholder folders for organization >> - Ability to automatically record calls in juristictions where it's legal >> - Ability to switch between launchers at will >> - Ability to use bitTorrent applications at will >> - Ability to store installers to user-defined locations (for use elsewhere) > > ??? Why do you lie? All you can do is make a *folder* to put rarely used apps in. That's it. That's not a "fully functional App Drawer" in the least. The App Drawer is *more* than a simple folder. The fact you don't know that scares me, because I assume you're an average iOS user - but you know very little (almost nothing) about the capabilities of the operating system. I, myself, know very little about iOS - but I know so much more than you do that it's scary how little the average iOS user must know about their operating system if you're an average user. Or, maybe you do know, and you're just lying? (Then you're a twin of nospam.) What is it about your psychology that you feel you have to lie to apologize for Apple's decisions?

It simply shows you have absolutely no idea what app drawer apps do! There are so many choices for App Drawer apps, that it's not funny. Here is a screenshot of just a few App Drawers installed on my system that I've recently played with: http://i.cubeupload.com/wy7W8j.gif Here is the setting to sort app-drawer apps any way I like on my phone: http://i.cubeupload.com/AMqU22.gif And, here is an example of me manually changing the sort order on my phone: http://i.cubeupload.com/FZPzQx.gif Basically you can do *anything* you want with these full-fledged app drawer apps on Android. Here's just one choice, which can: [?] Choose between 3 view modes: List, Grid, or Horizontal Paged --- List = WP7/Windows Phone 7 | Grid = Android | Paged = iPhone [?] Set number of rows and columns as well as row spacing [?] Set background color, image, or use your current wallpaper [?] Set the font type, font color, font size, and icon size --- Fonts = Arial Rounded, Droid Serif, Helvetica, or custom [?] Sort list by name (A-Z), install date, or launch frequency [?] Remember list position: Remembers last position in drawer [?] Edit application names and change default application icons [?] Hide less frequently used applications from the app list [?] Bulk edit (multi-select) more than one application at a time https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=JakedUp.AppDrawer&hl=en >> The App Drawer is *more* than a simple folder. > > it's actually *less* because you can't rearrange the drawer's contents > whereas you can rearrange a folder's icons and put the folder > *anywhere*. Again, you have absolutely no idea of what the App Drawer apps do on Android. There are *many* App Drawer apps. Even the default App Drawer is just an app. As such, it can be put anywhere you want. For example, this App Swap organizes your apps in *any* order you want: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ebt.appswitch&hl=en App Swap can do: ? Smart ordering ? Categorize by official Google Play Store categories ? Tags you app, edit name and icons ? Search for apps, search with apps ? Pinyin search ? *Arrange your apps* ? Filter by primary color ? Instant access up to 8 app with QuickSwipe ? For developer, force quit debug apps, show package names ? Open app in floating window (require Xposed XHaloFloatingWindow module) ? Configure your theme, dark or one of the material design color ? Hide any app ? Contextual menu with app info, link to the store and uninstall ? Icon Pack ready and app normalization ? More tips here : http://goo.gl/zg4hKZ As another example, this App Drawer app has a spotlight-like search engine: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.radsoft.appdrawer&hl=en And this App Drawer app organizes the apps by labels: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.code.appsorganizer&hl=en Of course, Spotlight-like search was always there with just a long press: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/09/19/tip-the-latest-version-of-the-google -now-launcher-lets-you-long-press-the-app-drawer-to-immediately-search -installed-apps/ This shows how to add folders and tabs to your App Drawer app: http://trendblog.net/folders-and-tabs-android-app-drawer-menu/ And the list of App Drawer apps goes on (and on and on). You compare all *that* with a simple folder on iOS? >> The fact you don't know that scares me, because I assume you're an >> average iOS user - but you know very little (almost nothing) about the >> capabilities of the operating system. >> >> I, myself, know very little about iOS > > that much is true. You are the one with the ludicrous claims. For example, here is my App Drawer setting in "App Swap". http://i.cubeupload.com/AMqU22.gif Look at that. I swapped the first two app icons. http://i.cubeupload.com/FZPzQx.gif Geez. I'm a veritable genius. With a single tap and move, I can do on Android, what you claim you can only do on iOS by creating a dumb folder named "App Drawer". >> - but I know so much more than you do that it's scary how little the >> average iOS user must know about their operating system if you're an >> average user. > > you know far less than you think you do and worse, you refuse to learn > anything. When you claim that creating a folder called "App Drawer" on iOS is as functional as any of the many App Drawer apps on Android, I have to wonder if you know even the most trivial things about Android, such as what App Drawer apps actually do. Your claim that a folder named "App Drawer" on iOS is as functional as *any* of the many app-drawer apps on Android, is essentially, ludicrous.

The tweet included a purported leak that shows a build of Android missing a critical feature: the app drawer. ... Phone makers, like LG, Samsung, and Sony, have been toying with ways to eliminate the Android app drawer, effectively priming the hysteria pump for this unfortunate Google slip up. On the LG G5, the app drawer is completely missing and a Samsung Galaxy Labs option also lets you delete the drawer if you want. I¹ve even noticed on smaller Android releases, like Nextbit¹s Robin, have also deleted the app drawer (though the phone does comes with the Google Now launcher pre-installed.) Combine this slow disappearing act with the fact these same Android makers (Nextbit excluded, that phone is just plain weird looking) are inching perceptively closer to being more and more iPhone-like in material and design, and it¹s understandable that some Android fans are sensing a hostile software takeover.

I have seen that article, and many others, since I have googled for all the best app drawers around. There are so many app drawer apps out there, that it would be entirely meaningless if Google (or LG) decides to ship a phone sans a *default* app drawer. What used to bother me was why you *defend* idiotic decisions on iOS (such as the lack of an app drawer app), but now that I understand how you think, your crazy thought process no longer bothers me. a. You bought on *image* alone (which was crafted by Apple Marketing) b. You buy into the *herd mentality* (which is led by Apple Marketing) So, since the leader of your herd, Apple Marketing, decrees that you don't need an App Drawer app on iOS, you believe that. Yet, since you actually *do* need an App Drawer app on iOS, you espouse the creation of a "folder" named "App Drawer". Furthermore, you repeatedly lie and say that this folder named "App Drawer" is not only as functional, but *more functional* than the Android App Drawer apps. You say it's "more functional" because you can organize the app icons in that folder any way you want, and you decreee that this can't be done in the Android App Drawer apps. Yet, I show you that it can be *easily* done: http://i.cubeupload.com/AMqU22.gif Even then, you *still* try to retain your vaunted *image* that was crafted by Apple Marketing, and which you follow as a herd animal by intimating that feature is going away (which it isn't, so that's a lie). There are so many choices for app drawer apps for Android that it isn't funny: http://i.cubeupload.com/wy7W8j.gif Let's just leave it at you don't know the first thing about Android, so, you really should stick to iOS alone. http://i.cubeupload.com/FZPzQx.gif

Which is (if that statement was true in the first place) not Apple's fault, but the fault of the authors of the receiving apps. In iOS (and I explained that to you already in an earlier thread, you just keep 'forgetting' those explanations) it's the responsibility of any app author to define which types of data (if any) an app can handle, and is thus willing to accept being forwarded from another app. What good is it to forward a piece of music to a bookkeeping app? ;-) > The difference, if you have both ecosystems, is absolutely astounding. > > For just one example, if I download a 100MB movie from the browser on > Android, I have it set up to automatically forward that movie to the ES > File Explorer download engine, automatically (I only have to press hide on > the obligatory download popup). I can do better than that, because iOS apps can use much better (ie. more secure) ways of storing encryption keys than are available in Android. You may have different priorities. people aren't paying 3x 'just to have an iphone'. they're paying 3x to have a phone with more features and performance than a bottom tier phone. in other words, they want a phone that doesn't suck. samsung, htc and even some other motorola phones cost 3x a moto g3, sometimes even *more* than that, yet you somehow neglect to mention any of those. the fact that you keep harping on *only* apple's prices shows that you are as anti-apple as it gets. > I note that no-one has yet said what an iPhone can do that e.g. a Nexus > 5 cannot. yes they have, but you have already said you're not interested in features, you're only interested in whatever is the cheapest. and you don't have a nexus 5 anyway, so why even mention it. you have a cheap moto g3 that's comparable to a 4 year old iphone which sells for $100-200 used.

What you constantly do is really bad cherry picking. What you do, anyone can do. It takes no brains whatsoever to find lousy price:performance comparisons, and, in fact, you find them all the time. Nobody says they don't exist. It takes intelligence to find good price-performance comparisons to Apple equipment, simple because Apple equipment is so good. There's no bad Apple devices. > samsung, htc and even some other motorola phones cost 3x a moto g3, > sometimes even *more* than that, yet you somehow neglect to mention any > of those. Again, you fail to understand how to use intelligence in picking a good price-performance category. It's easy to find overpriced Android equipment which has the same or even worse price-performance to Apple equipment. Anyone can do that. > the fact that you keep harping on *only* apple's prices shows that you > are as anti-apple as it gets. In any comparison, since there are a zillion options, you have to nail down your starting point (at least for a Usenet post). Since Apple equipment is 'standard' and since it's *all* high end, and since it doesn't change by manufacturer as does Android equipment, it makes sense to choose the Apple equipment as the starting point. Which is why I choose the iPhone 6s to find a good Android equivalent to choose from. Admittedly, the choices in Android phones boggles the mind, so we have to also start somewhere. We can either start at the top and work down (which would be foolish but very easy to do) or we could start at the bottom and work up (which is the way to go for price:performance comparisons) but which takes more effort and decision making. Starting at the bottom, at first I looked at the G3 which David Taylor suggested, but, I, like you, see that as not an essentially equivalent phone; so then I tried the G4, but it too does not seem to be an essentially equivalent phone. Then, I tried the Nexus 5, but it failed by way of comparison, until the Nexus 6, which seems to be a favorable starting point to compare price:performance. >> I note that no-one has yet said what an iPhone can do that e.g. a Nexus >> 5 cannot. > > yes they have, but you have already said you're not interested in > features, you're only interested in whatever is the cheapest. My review was balanced. As were your comments. If NFC is important to you that it work in more than Apple Pay situations, then the iPhone 6s fails and the Nexus 6 wins; however if the video camera formats are important to you, then the Nexus 6 fails and the iPhone 6s wins. I was very fair, and I always am. You just don't like someone who is fair. You always keep secrets, e.g., like a used-car salesman who knows the car has been in an accident. You harp on the 0.1 version difference in Bluetooth, yet you completely ignore the lack of file transfer by bluetooth. Yet you declare that 4.2 is far better than 4.1, which probably isn't the case. Meanwhile, I say outright that my own giftee of the Nexus 6 LOVES the CAMERA on her iPhone 6. She told me that today, in fact. She says the camera is "much better", and, well, while she's not technical, she has eyes. She loves her iPhone 6 over her Nexus. (The SIM card hasn't arrived yet.) I'm not afraid to say this since all I care about are the facts. > and you don't have a nexus 5 anyway, so why even mention it. you have a > cheap moto g3 that's comparable to a 4 year old iphone which sells for > $100-200 used. The kid with the Nexus 5 already *loves* her new-to-her iPhone 6! And, the adult with the G3 is happy with it - but she only asked for a phone with a hard keyboard - so - her bar was set low. Me? I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII, which, when I got it, was a pretty good phone for its time.
