You realize there is a thing called a "dictionary", right? That is NOT what insurrection's definition is.

"Leo" <leoblaisdell@sbcglobal.net> wrote > Actually the BLM protests/riots were not in anyway close to being an > insurrection. They were not trying to overthrow a duly elected government, > they were protesting racially motivated injustice. | Define insurrection. Having worked in law enforcement, I´m surprised at your definition. Are the burning of legal businesses and the occupation of sections within a city not an insurrection, even if unanswered by authority? Do the authorities work for the people or for their unions and party? Did the definition of insurrection change when I wasn´t looking? | I think the difference is that the crowd at the Capitol was, at least in part, intending to destroy democracy by helping their leader become an autocratic dictator. And they were doing that systematically. There may have been a lot of naivety and even borderline insanity, but that was the intention. They actually attacked to government with the intent of destroying it. The BLM people are not trying to destroy the government. They're treating it like a customer service desk, demanding that changes be made according to what they believe is right. In their case, also, there's lots of naivety, childishness, and it's not unfair to say that many are spoiled, upper-middle class, white youth trying to assuage their "privilege guilt". But I'm not aware of any of them pushing to dismantle government itself, either locally or nationally. That's not to say that BLM was handled well or that such people shouldn't be arrested when they destroy property, but to compare them to the Capitol mob is glib and missing the point. That's why the mob got so far. No one quite believed that the issue needed to be taken seriously. And many people still don't. We have a big chunk of Congress lying, saying the election was rigged, willing to take down the democratic process, merely because they're afraid of Trump and want to keep their jobs. How far does it have to go before it's a threat? I remember once asking a Jewish friend, who'd lost nearly all family in WW2, how the Jews didn't see things like Kristallnacht coming. He said that was a question still being asked. I suspect it was simply too much trouble. Being an ostrich is very easy. The cost of recognizing what was actually happening just seemed too high.

I have a problem with ALL presidential travel; they should stay the fuck home in the White House and do their jobs; most people would be satisfied with a vacation at Camp David, which is already a secure location -- that should be good enough. That being said, a president has to pay SOMEBODY for all those rooms and meals etc. Why not at the place HE's staying? If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape. If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem.

OK, he talked a good game. No idea. He was supposed to be rich. Poor
guys don't get trophy wives. The Obamas were the real grifters.
I feel really sorry for Melania. She didn't bargain for being First
Lady. I wouldn't want those 'duties' either. I hope she comes out of
this OK.

Federal employees and sometimes contractors DO get significant
discounts. Sometimes they have to show ID, sometimes not.
