Nope.

A peaceful protest that turns violent...

...at least in part because of the overly militant response by law
enforcement...

...is not an insurrection.

Not by any stretch of any imagination.

An invasion of the capital with the express purpose of overturning the
results of a lawful election...

...that's an insurrection.

Sorry, but it being an insurrection does not depend on whether or not it
could succeed.

'insurrection | ˌɪnsəˈrɛkʃ(ə)n |

noun

a violent uprising against an authority or government'

That's from the "Oxford Dictionary of English"

Oh, no! A typo!

There was no "militant response". Most "law enforcement" agencies are
actually on the same side as Antifa, just only marginally to the right.

The Antifa/BLM riots and local "law enforcement" response is just a
street-dance.

Overthrowing govt.

Nope, just violent rioting and looting. They never
replace the govt for long and don't replace it either,
just keep the govt reps out for a while at most.

> even if unanswered by authority?

Nope.

> Do the authorities work for the people or for their unions and party?

Irrelevant to what is an insurrection.

> Did the definition of insurrection change when I wasn´t looking?

Nope, you never had a clue about what it means.

You realize there is a thing called a "dictionary", right?

That is NOT what insurrection's definition is.

Define insurrection. Having worked in law enforcement, I´m surprised at
your definition. Are the burning of legal businesses and the occupation of
sections within a city not an insurrection, even if unanswered by authority?
Do the authorities work for the people or for their unions and party? Did
the
definition of insurrection change when I wasn´t looking?

I think the difference is that the crowd at the Capitol was,
at least in part, intending to destroy democracy by helping
their leader become an autocratic dictator. And they were
doing that systematically. There may have been a lot of
naivety and even borderline insanity, but that was the intention.
They actually attacked to government with the intent of destroying
it.

The BLM people are not trying to destroy the government.
They're treating it like a customer service desk, demanding
that changes be made according to what they believe is right.
In their case, also, there's lots of naivety, childishness, and
it's not unfair to say that many are spoiled, upper-middle
class, white youth trying to assuage their "privilege guilt".
But I'm not aware of any of them pushing to dismantle
government itself, either locally or nationally.

   That's not to
say that BLM was handled well or that such people shouldn't
be arrested when they destroy property, but to compare them
to the Capitol mob is glib and missing the point. That's why
the mob got so far. No one quite believed that the issue needed
to be taken seriously. And many people still don't. We have a
big chunk of Congress lying, saying the election was rigged,
willing to take down the democratic process, merely because
they're afraid of Trump and want to keep their jobs. How
far does it have to go before it's a threat?

I remember once asking a Jewish friend, who'd lost nearly all
family in WW2, how the Jews didn't see things like Kristallnacht
coming. He said that was a question still being asked.
I suspect it was simply too much trouble. Being an ostrich
is very easy. The cost of recognizing what was actually
happening just seemed too high.

Nope, its not possible for a US prez to be an autocratic
dictator no matter what you do rioting wise.

> And they were doing that systematically.

Nope.

No it wasn’t. All they tried to do was avoid Biden
being declared the winner of the election.

Nope, with the intention of stopping Congress
from declaring Biden the winner of the election.

That’s what the capitol riot was doing too.

Neither was the capitol riot.

Nope.

Nope, that happened because the cops didn’t
expect them to start smashing things, let alone
shit on the carpets and loot Pelosi's office.

> No one quite believed that the issue needed to

Because in the end, there were only 6 dead and most
of those werent even killed by the rioters or the cops.

> We have a big chunk of Congress lying, saying

And the reality is that there werent enough of those
to matter and it’s the last day for Trump today.

> How far does it have to go before it's a threat?

Some possibility of changing who gets to be prez.

> I remember once asking a Jewish friend, who'd lost

Nope, it was because nothing like the result
they got had happened before, particularly
with them being gassed and cremated.

And that couldn’t happen in the USA, there is no
equivalent of Hindenburg who gets to decide who
will be the Chancellor and it isnt even constitutionally
possible for Congress to abolish itself either.

That’s not what happened.

Trump is a brand. He sold the brand to his voters and all they got were
slogans. His whole presidency was a grift to fill his pockets and improve
his brand. Unfortunately for him, he didn't realise that it came with
responsibility and consequences. He's now seriously damaged (hopefully
fatally) his brand. No-one wants anything to do with him. He's also too
afraid to go back to NY and is going to hide in Florida. Although, who
knows how long for as his neighbours have already made it clear he's not
allowed to reside at Mar-a-lago.

They got rather more than that in some areas like Syria.

What he charged the Secret Service for accommodation, and golf cart rental at
Mar-a-Largo, West Palm Beach, Doral, Bedminster, & Trump National, D.C. more
than made up for any "sacrifice" of Presidential salary.

I have a problem with ALL presidential travel; they should stay the
fuck home in the White House and do their jobs; most people would be
satisfied with a vacation at Camp David, which is already a secure
location -- that should be good enough.

That being said, a president has to pay SOMEBODY for all those rooms and
meals etc. Why not at the place HE's staying? I assume he gave the
boys the standard government discount...

Cheers, Bev
You need only three tools: WD-40, duct tape and a hammer. If it doesn't
move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem.

OK, he talked a good game. No idea. He was supposed to be rich. Poor
guys don't get trophy wives. The Obamas were the real grifters.

I feel really sorry for Melania. She didn't bargain for being First

Federal employees and sometimes contractors DO get significant

Oh boo-hoo! Poor little rich girl! She knew exactly what she was getting by
marrying that creep. The real victim is his son, he won't be getting any

There are rules to stop government employees being overcharged. As always
Trump ignored them until he was told to stop.

Literally everything you believe that Trump told you is a lie.

Exactly. She knew what she was getting into when she married him. It was
a good deal for her, financially. You're right, the victim is Barron. We
can hope that he will not turn out like Trump's other children, but it
may be a vain hope.
