I need help networking a hotspot connection between my Android phone and
my laptop. They both can access the cellular Internet just fine but
their IPv4 addresses show them to be on separate networks.

phone: Moto G5S+ (XT1806), IPv4=100.149.xx.xx
laptop: Lenovo E531 Win 10 Pro, IPv4=192.168.43.231, IPv4
Gateway=192.168.43.1

Is there a way to get them on the same network? Thanks.

that's the address your phone has got from your 3G/4G provider

that's the address your laptop has got from the phone's hotspot

Nothing looks wrong with your setup.

Thanks for the reassurance. Is there any particular reason why I can't
get basic networking between the two devices? I don't see a Gateway IP
for the phone.

The phone and the laptop are both on the 192.168.43.0/24 subnet, the
192.168.43.1 address is the phone, not sure if any apps running on the
phone won't listen to the hotspot interface.

The phone probably doesn't have a gateway address on the 3G/4G side, it
just sends all traffic to e.g. the rmnet interface, if it's a qualcomm
chipset.
