#35878 — Orientation does not change left-right audio

I turned my tablet upside down while watching Netflix. The screen
rotates through 180 degress but the audio channels stay the same, so
thhe left channel is now on my right.

This also happens on Youtube.

How can I correct this?

Am using Kitkat 4.4.2.

Another trivial annoyance ... if your tablet has vol+ above vol- when
held in portrait, hold it in landscape so the vol+ is left and the vol-
is right, but the volume slider moves right when you press vol+ and left
when you press vol-

One has to turn the tablet upside down so that the usb socket is at the
side nearer the wall socket. The charging cable is typically too short.

But I have not noticed if the audio rotates or not. I need a piece with
clear sides.

I often listen with bluetooth headphones, though.

I wonder if it's a hardware problem rather than a problem with
KitKat.

Can anyone kindly check it on their tablet for me. This is what I
used:

Thanks!

I tested that one with the youtube app, then I downloaded as file and
played directly in VLC. When I turned the tablet round (without
headphones) the left and right audio played on the wrong sides, ie,
audio did not change speakers.

This is an Asus Z 10 running Android 6.0.1

Looks like a bug to me.

I wish it was so simple but the charge lead I keep plugged in when
watching movies is on the wrong side of the tablet when it's in
normal orientation. Don't want to tempt fate and break the thing.

USB cables are not made long.

For charging it doesn't matter if they are long, but the main use of USB
cables is data transmission, and length is an issue.

yes they are.

the maximum length per the usb spec is 5 meters. that's plenty long.

actually it does.

which is why usb extension cables violate the spec.

Short ones aren't, long ones are.

Alternatively, the O/P could remember to charge the device when it's not
in use, so it doesn't need to be plugged in when it's in use :-P

And USB extension cables work fine with charging.

Specially with tablets which have plenty of space for a decent battery
and so don’t need to be plugged in when in use very much.

If I watch a movie in my older tablet, the battery about depletes
completely. So if I can I plug it.

Heh! :-)

Even easier would be an Android fix which rotated the channels with
the tablet's orientation.

Plenty of long extension USB cables, I have one myself for the desktop
system
to get the socket next to where I sit to allow me to plug various charging
cables
and USB sticks etc into conveniently.

She's using it for charging and the length limit for data is quite a long
way.

I never said the problem was that the lead was too short. The
problem is that the micro USB plug sticks out on the side that is
most prone to getting knocked because of the way I prefer to hold the
tablet.

I tried a lead with right-angle micro USB plug but the charge rate
through the lead it came with was too low and I am not planning on a
resoldering exercise when the channels should rotate with the tablet
orientation in the first place.

The lead is pefectly fine and within spec. USB does require a
lead must carry 2 amps which is what my tablet requires if it is
to charge faster than the rate of discharge from a screen at full
brightness.

I wouldn't be too sure about that:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#USB_Power_Delivery_.28UPD.29
"an extension that specifies using certified PD aware USB
cables with standard USB Type-A and Type-B connectors to
deliver increased power (more than 7.5 W)"
So it might be that the angled cable doesn't meet this spec
and you get 7.5W instead of the 10W you need.
