Yes, I used to use the "one time" option a lot. Now, unfortunately, that's not available for some platforms. e.g. on S6 with android 6 it just asks "ok" then sets the default app. No option to do one time. Suuuper annoying.

I get NO choice about which dialer to use. I may have cleared the
google dialer as default (which I never chose), but I don't trust it to
come back again.
Which dialers do you guys like?
Are you by any chance related to another Joe xxxfish?

I just installed Drupe. It gives me a choice, but not quite as easily
as it claims. Supposedly you swipe from your contact to the symbol for
the darrier/app you want to use, but when I do that the 'phone' switches
to hangouts. If I tap the 'phone' icon it throws up my favorite
contacts, which works ok. Gotta find out how to get ALL contacts...

There seems to be no way to tell the phone to > actually USE THE GODDAM PHONE. > > What am I missing? If you used Hangouts Dialer before and decided to make it the default then it will show up as the dialer. I have the following dialers: Phone (the built-in app) - cellular phone only Hangouts Dialer - wifi only Xfinity Connect - wifi only Skype - wifi only I also have the Google Voice app so outbound calls, especially wifi, look like they originated from my Google Voice phone number. I also use it for cellular phone calls. It is my main phone number migrated to there that I've had for decades. One number (Google Voice) calls ALL my phones: cell phones (all of them), home phones, work phones, etc. However, still something else is needed to make the call, like Hangouts Dialer (wifi) or Phone (cellular). When I make a call and initiate it, I get a screen asking me which caller to use. So I see the 4 listed above. If I tap on the one that was previously used then it gets used now. If I tap on a different one than was used the last time, I have to tap twice: once to select and again to use. At the bottom of the screen are the choices "Always" or "Just Once". Rather than tap "Just Once" and then tap on the caller, I just tap twice on the caller app. If I tap "Always" then that caller always gets used. I would have to go into the app's config to NOT have it the default. So maybe you made Hangouts Dialer the default caller (aka dialer). To unset an app as the default, go to Settings -> Application Manager -> scroll the list leftward to get at the All column, scroll down to the app that is current the default, select it, and click on "Clear defaults" option for that app. If you uninstall an app that is the handler for a default action, there won't be a default action. That means you will have to pick another app to be the default or use the popup screen asking you which app to use (and not pick a default "Always" app if you want to always be asked which one to use).
