#35726 — What's your favorite browser?

SubjectWhat's your favorite browser?
Message-ID<nvtgr5$pa$1@dont-email.me>
I'm a firefox fan.
Problem I have is that the android version locks up on my phones
and tablets. Works fine on some pages, but, on others it just sits
there. No data transfer, it just locks up and waits.

What's your favorite web browser for android?

Opera - it has a useful layout with all the navigation options at the
*bottom* and not the top, which is way easier to handle one-handed on a
smartphone. I also like the "speed dial" page with the favorites as big
icons which can easily be accessed by touching one button in the middle
at the bottom.

Be careful. Opera is NOT the old Opera anymore. The company sold (most)
of their stuff to a rich Chinese consortium.

I simply would not use it anymore. Browsers send information about
whatever you do and type to companies (now in China). That must be
stopped.

That is one of the reasons why I search for a good proxy to observe and
block such fraud, be it from publishers, government agencies or other
spies.

For PC, what about Vivaldi, the fork based on older Opera version,
done by the original Opera team, some time before Opera was sold ?
As the team did not like the course
Opera development was bearing toward.

For Android, aside of big ones like chrome, opera and FF,
there are several interesting browsers,
like CM browser, UC browser or Dolphin.

But, perhaps users should avoid any browser at all,
as all of them eventually interact with the code of web pages,
with all that tracking JS and webbugs.

( A webbug is a very tiny image, usually 3rd party and transparent,
used for a page visit tracking purposes. The 3rd party passive resources
are seldom filtered, as such a general filtering would affect the web
experience, unless selective filtering is applied.
But such a filtering as AdBlock/uBlock, Request Policy
or NoScript-ABE is rare on Android platform.)

I use a VPN service (Freedome) which claims to filter tracking but of
course I have no way of knowing how effective it is. Disconnect.me does
the same apparently.

I mean rather on web traffic level than on connection level.

Unless you always start with cleaned cookies and cache
and there is no way to identify you according browser patterns,
or other local data eventually available to web code.

DAMNED WRONG !!!!!

Look into the parameter files of the browsers. To do that install a
browser in a FRESH maschine, so there is not history of any kind.
Install the browser without a connection to the net. Look into the ini-
etc files. Then make connection to the net.

Do the same with the PC being connected to the net when the browser is
installed.

You will find that in the ini files there are long numbers. These are
written during installation and they do identify the machine. Whenever
data is exchanged with a server this number-stuff is used.

Since there is not one but a bunch of companies involved, EACH OF THEM
gets your number, so the GANG of companies *BECAUSE OF THE IDENTICAL
TIME OF FIRST CONTACT* can identify your machine damned well.

I wonder what will happen if we change the numbers every 30 seconds. ;O)

Nope. It's a new browser and uses the chrome/blink engine. Chrome plugins
work in vivaldi.

They probably just ported some features.

I use Vivaldi. It has some advantages over other browsers, but is a
severe loss of functions, compared with OLDER versions of Opera.
Somewhen Opera programmers began to cut off important functions.

I HATE ANDROID!

Javascript must be banned by law.

Web-bugs are something different than Javascript. Switching off images
is an easy way to avoid them. But one of the drawbacks of the now
"modern" browsers is that the force people to load images. And MANY
web-sites force surfer to have images ON. Otherwise navigation does not
work there.

As all are used no only for good, but also for evil.
