Hi all - newbie (to Android) here

I have an LG P710 phone with the above annoying feature. When I move the
phone it usually switches itself on, so I have to put it to sleep again. Is
there a way to stop this from happening? I've looked & looked but can't find
such an option. Google is no help either. Anyone?

I have a Lenovo Phab Plus which does this. The power switch is very
sensitive and i seem to touch it accidentally. May be worth spending some
time picking yours up in different corners/edges to try and pin down what
it is.

Believe me I've tried all that. The power button is in one corner and I
don't go anywhere near there when picking it up.

Thanks for your response.

I have an LG/ATT seven inch tablet that does the same thing. Never been

Seems like the problem is rather wide-spead. Ho hum.

Thanks for your response

It's a long shot, as only a few phones have it, but - have you got an
option called <Ambient Display> in your Display settings?

No. Nothing even remotely similar.

Thanks for your reponse.

You say it "switches itself on" but do you really mean it turns on the
screen?

If that's it, and the Android version and your phone support it, there
should be an option in settings (possibly under "Moves" depending) to
control how it works.

Ironic, since the folks (like me) who have shiny new Pixels are
complaining that Google left the feature out of Android 7.1, at least as
it lives on the Pixel.

I mean it switches on the screen. Should've been clearer.

The phone doesn't have a 'Moves' setting, and believe me I've been through
the all the settings, even the unlikely looking ones.

Thanks for your response.

Smartphones and tablets are manufactured to so small tolerances that a
slight bending or touching can trigger the start-button-function.

Is the phone still new? Than ask the seller to replace the gadget.

I've had the phone for about 14 months so that's a no-go, but thanks for the
thought.

Where do you live? In Europe the warranty is two years.

Sounds like a feature [wanted or not] rather than a bug.

Just a comment.

I have a Motorola X play phone. Often when it is moved the screen lights
up for a second or two, enough to tap it into life. If not, it goes dark
again automatically, without intervention.

Doesn't your phone go dark again? Or does it waits the full screen
timeout, which can be anything from a minute to several minutes?

Guessing, I think that your phone was intended to do as mine does, but a
bug impedes it from working.

I didn't know the answer to that, having always just switched it off. So I
picked up the phone (which woke up) and waited. Exactly 30 secs later it
went back to sleep. At least I now know it does that, which is helpful.
Thanks.
