Yes but a cloud is not a mobile device. We're talking about FUNCTIONALITY inherent in the mobile device. Not functionality that can only be gained by cloud servers. That's a wholly different topic, and, the comparisons will be wholly different because of that. We were only talking about iOS itself. The lil' bitty thing that weighs about 5 ounces. That's it. Just the device itself. Not some huge mainframe cloud server. Gotta run...

What does Airdrop *do* that Android can't do? For example, I can *easily* transfer a file from Android to my Linux laptop without adding *any* software whatsoever to my Linux laptop. But I can't seem to transfer that same file from my iPad to the same Linux machine as easily. Where is the missing functionality on iOS?

Shows you what airdrop capable devices are visible to your airdrop capable device and completely automatically sets up a much faster ad hoc connection to the one you tell it you want to move something to and moves whatever you want to move to that using wifi. That FUNCTIONALITY isnt available with android.

The score of things I repeatedly listed which Android brand cellphones do that iOS branded cellphones can't do are *all* done *on* the device itself. No need for a second computer. Besides, even if we include file-transfer services in that comparison (which *you* brought in, not me), Android brand phones already have and always had ad hoc services which work both inside and outside the walled garden. I won't say you're lying for you to argue against those facts; but I would say that you should look up the date that Apple bought the AirDrop trade name and then note that Android branded phones had ad hoc services long before then.

But done have the particular FUNCTIONALITY that airdrop has. No one ever said that androids don’t have any ad hoc file transfer capability. JUST that they don’t have THAT PARTICULAR ad hoc file transfer functionality.

Once you get outside the walled garden, you are forced to "just give up". Yeah, they have Android-brand ad hoc services while Apple M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G has convinced you that the Apple-brand ad hoc services are, somehow (magically?) better than Android-brand ad hoc services. You are not alone though, because it's M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G's job to make you think that. Just as many morons think Techron is better than poly ether amines or that Tylenol is better than acetominophen, you think AirDrop-brand ad hoc services are better than Android-brand ad hoc services. PS: Apple MARKETING loves you all the way to the bank!

I have in fact enough of a clue to be able to see what advantages and disadvantages a PARTICULAR ad hoc file transfer functionality offers and decide that airdrop leaves using bluetooth for the movement of files for dead functionality wise. And I did in fact use bluetooth ad hoc file transfer functionality extensively for putting shopping lists, the cheapest ever seen database, size and feature database onto the smartphone before leaving the house and stopped using that when I worked out for myself that clouds left that approach for dead, because it is completely automatic and requires no action on my part what so ever. Nothing whatever to do with marketing by anyone. > that the Apple-brand ad hoc services are, somehow > (magically?) better than Android-brand ad hoc services. They failed because I was never aware of any marketing about that. > PS: Apple MARKETING loves you all the way to the bank! They actually hate me because I keep pointing out what iOS devices can't do. And I didn’t pay a cent for airdrop either, it came free when I decided that the iOS hardware suited me better than androids for a very wide variety of reasons. And I keep reconsidering that choice, particularly now that locally the local banks and credit unions etc are adopting AndroidPay much more willingly than they are ApplePay, essentially because google takes no cut of the transaction fee and Apple does. But so far the only real advantage of an android would be that my fee free credit card that I only use when I haven't managed to ensure that I have made sure that there are enough funds in the debit card account that is on ApplePay are enough for a particular transaction and that happens so rarely that it makes no sense to be spending the best part of $1K just to cover that very unusual situation. It makes much more sense to just use the physical card.

Nope, just more of your lies. Even you should have noticed that the second sentence doesn’t, liar.

Why do you insist on doing it on IOS? I pull MP3 out of Youtube with a Mac app. I'd be quite surprised if there weren't such apps for Linux and Windows. -- Wes Groleau

You and I think alike in this case, but you're one of the very few who post here who don't think that the iCloud is the solution to every technical problem that Apple restricts the user on. For example, when I asked how to edit a large video file *on* the iPad from my Linux laptop, I was told to first transfer the video file to the iCloud, and then transfer the video file a second time to the Linux laptop and then edit the video file on the Linux laptop and then transfer the results a third time to the iCloud and then transfer the video file a fourth time back to the iPad. Meanwhile, on Android, I just mount the Android file system on the Linux laptop and edit the video file directly on the Android device from Linux. > >> What is the freeware that you suggests for iOS to extract long video to >> offline audio? > > Why do you insist on doing it on IOS? It's not that I "insist" on "doing it" on iOS so much as I'm trying to listen to videos on iOS because that's what is easy to listen to while I'm nodding off to sleep. Of course, "doing it" on Android is trivial, as usual. Tap tap done. So, I'm just asking *how* to do that same trivial task on iOS.
