#33606 — TracFone HUAWEI (rant)

FromRobert Baer <robertbaer@localnet.com>

SubjectTracFone HUAWEI (rant)
Message-ID<al9vz.241$0n4.98@fx39.iad>
Have a "phone" that takes pictures. Android 4.0.4
   Wonderful.
Can "e-mail" them to other "phone" users.
Seem to be independent of pictures already supplied when you bought
the beast.
Just like your contacts list, you CANNOT export them, or put them
anywhere else that would be useful to the external world of "phones".
Hell, you are lucky that you can SEE them - but ONLY if you are wise
enough to keep the e-mail.

Two DIFFERENT worlds, looks like the twain will never meet.
**
I had umpteen messages, could not figure out how the H to view or
delete any.
Apps were constantly wanting to be installed with a number of them
refusing to being ignored/dismissed and therefore "default" installed.
Result was umpteen apps running with no way of controlling them.

There was no way to buy more time or find out what my time/text/data
was (no "Prepaid" menu like the simplest-minded TracFone).

"Keyboard" had the dinkiest "keys" possible and still be readable.
Worse, the GD mode was that horsesh*t "guess" crap, making it
impossible to enter a foreign word (Latin) for meaning lookup.

Got tired of it and deleted the umpteen messages by using factory reset.
That lasted all of 5 minutes, as more messages poured in.
Don't ask me what they said or even WHERE they are.

Anyone want this piece of silicon garbage is welcome for my cost of
shipping.

I'm sure most or all your issues could be dealt with or resolved, but
you seem to just be looking to rant, not to get any actual help.

You sound like my wife, who just refuses to learn how to use a new phone.

   OK; _you_ tell me:
1) how to import and how to export a contact list.
2) how to select a message for viewing (and deleting).
3) how to prevent apps from pouring in (and then self-installing).
4) how to find out what apps are "hiding", and then delete them.
5) how to get a decent-sized keyboard (say 24 point minimum characters).
6) how to FORCE what-you-enter-is-what-you-get (ie: SANE entry).
7) how to find (other?) hidden messages ("you have 35 new messages" but
none are found).

Exactly *which* part of "learn", didn't you understand!?

If ("Yeah, right!?") we would spoon-feed you the answers, you would
*learn* absolutely nothing.

So get yourself a book on Android, do some Googling, browse some
Android sites, etc., and all will be revealed.

BTW, some of the questions you asked *cannot* be answered, because you
didn't provide sufficient detail. Providing neccessary/required
information is also part of the learning process.

This is my problem with his screed. It's vague and unfocused, and I
really don't know what he's talking about in most of his points -
e.g., what's a "message"? Email? Text? App notifications? That's why I
concluded that he really isn't looking for help.

"message" is whatever that stupid icon wishes to show.
Since it never shows anything, how can i give an answer..
I see a "flash" or "blink" of a note saying i have 23 new messages.
So,i stupidly click on the "message" icon. And get nothing.
Before i did the factory reset (to get rid of the hundreds of
messages listed), there was this useless list of "from" (names?);
impossible to select any one,and impossible to delete (reason why i did
factory reset).
There was no way to view any of those messages so i cannot say WTF
they were about.

Maybe a stolen phone? No manual?
The factory reset to get rid of messages is sort of revealing :-)

Be charitable. Maybe somebody gave it to him when they got a new one.
Maybe he bought it at a yard sale. I guess the only person who would
risk jail to steal a 4.x phone is one who didn't know how to use it, but
we have no proof...

O.K. Charitable. A bloke that (1) doesn't know how to access messages
on the phone, and (2) can't be bothered to read a manual.

* There is *NO* manual!
* To access messages, doesn't one "click" on the "message" folder? Isn't
that what i said?
* And now that i have two REAL messages, and can SEE that they exist and
can READ them, maybe i should blow you off?

Why ever would you say any such thing? You don't mention your phone
model but look here:

Paper manuals are nice, but the ability to search a pdf file is invaluable.

I have never seen (retail) paper manuals for phones,or for that
matter,for computers.

Now a tablet (that someone else) did come with a paper "manual" using
maybe 7 point type and not useful at all. I enlarged it by a factor of
four to fill 8.5x11 sheets to make it readable for him.

Yes, PDF manuals on some specific items are useful on occasion.

Frankly I can't remember a product that didn't have a manual. Sometime
one had to look for it but it is there, somewhere. I recently bought a
Canon printer that came with a manual on a CD and I prefer paper
manuals so I accessed Canon's site and downloaded a PDF copy of the CD
manual,

Really? It used to be a standing joke that the manuals weighed more
than the computer.

So you went to the manufacturer's website and found that they have NO
manual as a pdf file? Did you complain to their 'contact us' number?
They're a big company, not some back-alley trader in fell-off-the-truck
phones.

I've never seen a hi-tech product that didn't have an on-line
downloadable manual. How do you think they get around the expense of
printing a proper paper manual (most companies include a short 'getting
started' paper brochure) that nobody will read anyway?

I bought this at Fred Meyer, in a standardized sealed plastic sales
container, and i must note that *NO* "phone" in retail stores on hangers
this way have manuals.
