#33065 — Android Mail Widget

From"Jeff Gaines" <jgaines_newsid@yahoo.co.uk>
Date2016-08-03 15:01 +0000
SubjectAndroid Mail Widget
Message-ID<xn0k9b9yd9mubvf00h@news.individual.net>
I have just taken delivery of an Asus TF103CE running Android 5.0. The
Gmail widget only shows mail from one account at a time whereas in earlier
versions you could show a combined view of all inboxes.

Can this behaviour be changed or can anybody recommend a widget that will
summarise all inboxes please?

K9 is a good option. Bluemail has also been a recommendation on here.

K9, there's a name to conjure with!

I'm pretty sure when I had a Demon "tenner a month" Internet account in
the early 1990's I used something called K9, can't remember what it did
though!

I actually want a widget that works like it used to in Android <5 where
my email inboxes are combined.

'Fraid I can't help with the widget, but I too would recommend throwing away the default Android mail ap and replacing it with K9. It's a free ap which supports multiple mail accounts - including Gmail if you insist - and it has a "unified inbox" which displays all new mail from all accounts in a single list. I've set up my email accounts only to check for new mail on demand and, using the unified inbox, I can check all accounts in a single operation.

I use Outlook, and it has a widget included. Dunno if I'd call it that
good, but... :)

OK, tried and it seems OK with widget, thank you :-)

Oh, the irony of getting away from Windows then using Outlook!

I use Aquamail. It is by far the best e-mail app I've used on an Android
tablet. It will display all your accounts in a list on one side of the
screen, and is very configurable - far more features than most would need.

On my Android phone, I use Boxer for simplicity - that has the option of
a "universal inbox" for all accounts - but I don't think that's what you
were after.

I just tried Outlook to see if was any good. It is unable to authenticate with my mail service, which requires STARTTLS on port 587. Outlook doesn't have an option for this.

K9 does have a "Unread" widget. You configure it with an Inbox to display, which can be the Unified Inbox.
