how can I get in a readable format the wireless passwords stored on my 
device?

using 4.4.something, NOT rooted

I use WiFi Key Recovery, but it does require root access.

If it's your own router that you've lost the password to, you may be 
able to recover it on your PC.  If not, you can generally change the 
password on the router by plugging a computer directly into it and 
bringing up the admin menu.  Consult your router manual for details.  If 
you've lost the manual, you may be able to find one on the web.

AFAIK you need root for that. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and did
some searching for the same thing. All apps needed root. It's a bit of a
PITA because with my Nokia N9, all I needed was the right app.

Interesting tool, but I have a desktop and it's connected through UTP
cable. I only have wireless because of my smartphone. :-)
