Wrong concept: Nowadays spam filtering is done on the server and not on
the client.

Nowadays, as always, spam filtering is done wherever it is effective.
That can be anywhere along the chain, including multiple places.

That may be, but none of it is spent filtering spam.

doing it in multiple places is not effective.

Also using my local client (usually Thunderbird) because it's easiest.

You really shouldn't try to tell me what's most effective for me.

Complexity is the enemy of reliability.

"I sent you an email, did you not get it?"
"No. It must have been eaten by a spam filter."

The more places that can happen, the more places you have to look to
see what triggered the response, and recover the missing note.

But hey, if you want to spend your time wandering down the rabbit hole,
feel free to do so.

That has never been a problem for me in all my many decades of email
use. I know exactly what I'm doing.

Well, gosh, thanks so much, but as I said before, it takes little or
none of my time.

For most of it, or the "regular" spam, yes. But "spam" is
also subjective, so being able to do additional filtering
can be very useful.

Is done on the server not on the client.
I have my own mail server and some public providers. They all offer spam
filterng or filtering in general one way or the other.

You're dead wrong. But perhaps you've never heard of post-filtering.
I do, and I use it extensively, despite good "standard" filtering
by my providers.

Depends if the server does a good job, or if you have sufficient control
of what the server does.

My ISP, for instance, does a bad job of it. Too many false positives.

Regardless of that, the OP asked for an email app that does the
filtering. It is pointless to tell him to do it differently. He wants
what he wants.

That is prerequisite.

That is ugly.

Sometimes people have things in mind and suddenly someone comes up with
a much more elegant solution. Everyone should be ready to learn or at
least to listen.

AFAIK K9 is capable of what the OP wants or he thinks he needs.

This is sorting not filtering. Effective, consistent and efficient spam
filtering is done on the server.

For me is EOT here.
