I think not many people have heard of Google Chat. It has a useful
feature, if you send someone a Google Chat message and they are not on
Google Chat, then it sends an email to them.

How is Google better than Meta? you might ask. Well, most people with an
android phone are already logged into Google, so it isn't really making
things that much worse. Also it has a new smiley looking icon.

This market belongs to Meta (WhatsApp) and Apple (iMessage) in the US
and Europe. And perhaps a little bit to Signal and Telegram on a global
scale.

Here’s the current global market share distribution for messaging apps
as of June 2026:

WhatsApp is the clear leader with over 3.3 billion monthly active users,
representing about 34% of the global mobile messaging market and 38% of
the world’s population. It dominates in most countries outside the US
and China.

WeChat (China) has 1.41 billion users, but its usage is almost
exclusively within China.

Telegram reached 1 billion users in early 2025, placing it third globally.

Facebook Messenger serves approximately 947 million users.

iMessage is highly popular in the US and among iPhone users, but its
global market share is much smaller compared to WhatsApp or WeChat. In
the US, it is the preferred choice for many iOS users.

Google Chat

Focus: Google Chat is primarily a business-oriented messaging platform,
part of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite). It is designed for team
collaboration, similar to Slack or Microsoft Teams.
User Base: It is widely used in enterprise environments but does not
have the same global consumer reach as WhatsApp, Telegram, or iMessage.

Questions?

BTW: Google is evil.
