although I didn't have it installed myself.

I have W11 in a virtual machine. I use it very little, but I do not find 
it a nightmare. What was a nightmare was migrating from W10 the virtual 
machine first, then upgrading the system itself.

Windows 11 is a lot worse. It is not relevant whether it is a Home or
Pro version. Inconsistent interface and very heavy on the hardware.
There are a lot of reasons why the change to 11 from 10 is not working.

Tried it the other day to spiff up my bash script; it did OK but only 
when told to do make one single change. If allowed to get more involved 
it invariably screwed it all up.

Judging by that post, you need to go back to school to learn basic 
gammar and spelling.  :-\

Teaching coding at junior school levels is utterly pointless and most 
will never use it again. Schools need to stick to the basic "Three Rs" 
first, and do so without using computers and tablets.
