No, really, I want to know what makes you think that calling someone a child as opposed to an adult is some sort of insult. And that calling someone an adult is some sort of compliment. FYI, it doesn't work with me. From my POV it makes you look strangely obsessed with wanting to be acknoweldged as having some kind of higher status. My guess is that somewhere along the line someone must have impressed on you that being an adult is some sort of superior state or station in life. It isn't, you know. It's just a different stage. What matters is what sort of adult you are. It seems your sort of adult is someone who doesn't engage in "childish semantic games, or idle chit-chat, etc". IOW, someone who thinks adults aren't supposed to play. Whoever taught you that was evil. They've robbed you one of the few things that make life worth living. Hardly Holdin, It seems to me that calling you out on your lies is of very great and adult value in a group that wants truth (as most 'technical' groups do), and doing so is fairly on-topic in an English-speaking group of any stripe as truth is not always easily discerned by non-English (as first language) speakers. So, technically, you're once again wrong. It may also interest you to know that this group (alt.os.linux) is NOT a technical group nor a help group nor a Mac, Android or Windows group. It is for discussion of the Linux operating system. Indeed, I do not find the term, "technical," or even, "help," in the names of any of the many groups to which you crosspost your own drivel. Therefore... Are you aware that the term, "passwd," does NOT stand for or in any way replace the term, "password?" It is a /LINUX TOOL/ used to /CHANGE/ a user's password. (BTW, that's some of that technical, adult, and on-topic help for you. Live it, love it, learn it) Your use of it to substitute for, "password," just goes to point out your own dire lack of knowledge of most things Linux. Do you even use Linux in any capacity? You seem danged ignorant of it if so. I know this because I /AM/ a long-time user of Linux exclusively and, while not an expert, I am moderately competent, at least insofar as keeping my own system and those of That Danged Wife, her business and Elder Daughter working and up-to-date. Can you say the same? Surely not. Speaking of adult, off-topic and of technical valueless-ness, have you audited your own posts that concern themselves mainly with insulting those who disagree with your oddball opinions? First, I tested Android & Windows on both SMBv1 & SMBv2 shares. 2. Then I started FE File Explorer on iOS 3. I pressed the + button in the top left (to the right of "File Explorer") 4. A "New Connection" form comes up 5. I pressed the "Windows" icon 6. I filled out the "New Connection" form Display name = smbv1 Host Name/IP = 192.168.1.10 DNS Domain = blank Path = blank Port = 445 Show Hidden Files = off Show Admin Shares = off Support DFS = off Connect as User Name = arlen Password = arlen 7. I hit "Save" 8. The "Smbv1" button showed up under "Connections" at bottom left 9. I pressed the "Smbv1" button & the "public" share shows up on the right 10. I pressed the "public" button, and the share contents show up perfectly I then attempt to repeat the test with the smbv2 share. The error is "Upgrade to Pro Version" "The Pro version can access more than one computer or NAS, manage files on network shares, and play more movie formats (AVI, MKV, XVID, etc)." OK. No big deal. I delete the "Smbv1" share and enter the information for the SMBv2 share. There is no error but the spinning wheel spins for a minute or two and then it errors out with:"Error" "Connection failed with the error: Connection timeout" It appears that the iOS "FE File Explorer: File Manager" beautifully supports SMBv1 shares, but that it doesn't support SMBv2 shares.

Hi Dan Purgert, As usual, you completely misunderstand what a 'general solution' entails, so I will simply assume that you're ignorant and that you wish to remain so, and move on with working with intelligent adults to define a general cross-platform solution that works for everyone, without spending a penny on software. To give folks an update... I tested ten iOS SMBv2 clients yesterday, reporting results in detail here: o Do you know of a free iOS SMBv2 (or SMBv3) client? <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.ipad/1OY2fExXxaM> NOTE: The question is _exactly_ the same as the Android question, only for iOS, and yet, the quality of responses pales in comparison, as usual, simply because iOS posters, in general, are nothing like Android posters, when it comes to competency (IMHO). I found _one_ smbv2 client which (barely) worked, and even so, it was speed-crippled crippleware - but it is (so far) the best there is on iOS (sadly, free functionality is almost always, if not always worse on iOS), so now all I have to do is find a good iOS passed.kdbx tool to complete the next phase of defining a general process that works for everyone, without spending a penny in software. o Which free iOS KeePass kdbx-compatible password database manager do you recommend? <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.ipad/nG8xHOzPp08> Once I test the iOS password managers, we're almost done defining a general (e.g., completely free) cross-platform passwd management setup which doesn't put _anything_ on the Internet and which _everyone_ with the given devices can use right away (which is the entire point that Dan Purgert is clearly ignorant of). As usual, I'll write up the general solution when I'm done so that everyone benefits from every effort, to the point that EVERYONE can easily reproduce everything without spending a penny (as always is the goal), on iOS, Android, Windows, Linux (where Mac users will have to wait as I don't have a Mac).

It's patently clear, as with the lemon-juice bank robber's cognitive bias...
o *Dan Purgert actually _believes_ he comprehends the stated problem set*
It's not only that Dan Purgert is incredibly (unfathomably) stupid,
o And, I no longer think Dan Purgert is incessantly pulling our leg
No. It's _far_ worse than just that:
o *Dan Purgert actually _believes_ he comprehends the stated problem set*
That! Is my epiphany.
o Hence, there is no adult way to deal with people like Dan Purgert:
o Lessons from Dunning-Kruger

"...incompetent people do not recognize - scratch that,

I proposed a method to maintain privacy when using that service. o Do you _still_ see flaws in _that_ method? o If so ... What flaws do you (still) see using that method? METHOD: 1. Use the Tor Browser 2. Enter one "item" (email or passwd) per session. 3. (It's helpful to wait a period of time between sessions.) *This is a DIRECT QUESTION to you, William Unruh.* o Since you _repeatedly_ bring up the privacy issue ... *What do you see as the privacy flaw using _that_ approach?* o (Or, do you have no objection when folks use _that_ approach?)

The page has entried both for email addresses and for passwords. The usual way would be for someone to discover the email address is pwned and they will then enter their password. That associates the email with the password. As I said it is probabilistic, and it will not get everyone, but it would be a great way to get probablistic association between passwords and emails. People argue that an 8 byte password is "unsafe" It is a lot safer than this kind of association.
