Samsung Galaxy Note II Android 4.4.2 No data plan. Active wifi connection. When I start google maps, I get no map. The window opens like it should but the map is blank. Eventually, the message pops up: maps is offline check your network connection. I have a Hauwei 538 Android 5.1.1 on the same google account that works just fine. I googled, fiddled with the clock settings, deleted caches, disabled/reenabled apps, rebooted, logged out/in to my account, no help. If I uninstall google maps, (actually only removes updates) maps works fine, I just need the improved user interface in the updated version. If I update maps, I get right back to the error condition. If I update maps on the Hauwei, maps still works fine. The Galaxy also has MapFactor Navigator and OsmAnd installed with locally installed maps. They both work fine. There are very long threads on the web about this issue, but no solutions that work for me...so far. Ideas?
