I don't know if the iPhone has it though ... does it?

Also, the iPad had it on iOS 7.0.1 which I was on until about a month or so
ago, but when I moved to iOS 9, something *changed* with that hardware
button.

I think they gave it two functionalities - which - essentially, is exactly
what a user would want.

The user should be able to *define* what the outside buttons do.
