The bottom row of icons is called the favourites bar (they are common 
across multiple home pages if you scroll left/right)

You can add/remove icons from the favourites bar, but you won't get the 
space back for anything else, I keep common icons like 
dialler/sms/firefox/thunderbird/camera there.

I'm on a Pixel with android16 (and the QPR1 UI refresh), if I do a 
long-press, then drag an icpn from the bottom row, I do get the remove 
'pill' at the top, if there is a copy of the favourite icon on the home 
screen *then*/ I get cancel pill instead of remove pill.

As above, I think those several which also exist as normal icons will 
trigger the cancel, not the remove?  I'm not sure what the logic is 
there ...
