Whistleblowing comes to mind but I don't recall seeing a notification center where their telephone number that might accept texts did not also support voice communication so you could call from some pay phone. I would think if they accept texts at their phone number that they also accept calls. Wear a big hat when walking up to the pay phone so any cameras in the area don't catch your face and don't use a drive-up phone so any cameras don't get a snapshot of your license plate. I've seen web sites (e.g., http://www.sendanonymoussms.com/) that offer free anonymous texting (well, I assumed the OP wanted free). However, I use a call blocker which includes text blocking and likely these sources of abuse are blacklisted, or they would get added to my blacklist if I get a call or text from an unknown sender. Most of these services know that they are being used for fake or prank texts or spamming but they indemnify themself by claiming users shouldn't be committing offense or fraud (oh yeah, granny's nasty finger pointing is going to stop the abuse, uh huh). The example site says they will expose your IP address and block you from further use if you abuse. While the user is hidden, the free texting service is not so some, like the example one, provide for reporting of abusers. However, it wouldn't take but a few reports by users of call/text blocking apps to get their entire service blacklisted to eliminate getting those anonymized turds. The above example site lists some reasons for anonymous texting. Too bad they pander to children, any age, that think pranking is fun for the recipient. They note: This SMS service is perfect for: - telling someone you love them via the phone You hide from someone you love? Isn't that called masturbation? - trick your friends with spoof SMS mnessages Oh yes, so much fun for your friends ... NOT! - give SMS warnings to friends Would you accept a warning from an unknown "friend"? - inform the authorities about illegal activities Gee, finally a legitimate reason. - inform the tax office about tax cheaters Oh yes, the IRS is going to bother with revenge texts. - when your own SMS service is low on credit No need to be anonymous. Use a free non-anonymous text service. Or squeeze off your impulse and wait until your next quota allotment. - if your private SMS is block by the receiver So block the service. Eliminate assholes helping assholes. - report fraud to management Use the phones in the lobby. Use an outside pay phone. Send an inter- departmental memo in the company mail but don't list your department. - and many more reasons... Rare few which are legitimate /mature/ reasons. https://techreviewpro.com/top-free-sms-sites-send-anonymous-sms-from-fake-number-prank-your-friends-4873/ Lists some other web-based services and some that have apps. Like trolls ignored here in Usenet, jtees4 won't know if his prank text ever reached his intended victim. Just more turds showing up at the recipient's number. Hopefully the recipient reports the source and gets the service blocked so call/text blocker apps can eliminate those turds.
