For example, TomTom uses a combination of their own maps and other sources. There were news about they joining with open street maps, too. For example, there are government maps. One of them caters to measuring properties accurately. When you sell a property, the official script is compared to that map, and that map information supersedes the script. So it maps accurately properties within a meter. https://www1.sedecatastro.gob.es/cartografia/mapa.aspx And it is not the only map in existence. For example, here: <https://www.ign.es/web/cbg-area-cartografia> Some of them you have to pay for access. And the military also have or had their own maps. Around here, Open Street Maps are pretty good, and they are gratis. You can not say a blanket statement that they are horrendous. -- Cheers, Carlos.
