What's baffling about it? You don't use ESXi or other hypervisors to
run Windows?

I use Linux to mess with other Linux users, or to hack wireless networks
and print porn to wireless printers. It's good for that. Sometimes I
pick on dodos with iPhones in Starbucks, and use their WiFi hotspots to
do things they get blamed for. Linux does have its uses.

Insofar as using Linux in the enterprise, it's not suitable for managing
most enterprise hardware except through CLI. I don't have time to hunt
down, debug and apply 50+ dependencies to get something GUI to work on a
Linux client where older portable progs are immediately available,
tested and working for the Windows OS in use.

I still have VMs running XP/2003, 2003 R2, 2008, Win7 / 2008 R2, Citrix,
even an old Novell Netware 4.12 server among 30+ other operating
systems.

What do I use the old Windows based systems for?

To manage and troubleshoot old hardware built on early Linux kernels
managed by Windows. I have six specially built as VMs on a laptop to
travel and troubleshoot with. The problem determination tools are
Windows based only. Figure that.

Why do I need these? Because the responsible Windows teams upgraded
themselves out of their ability to manage the hardware they depend on.
Some real brain trusts at work there.

My advice to you is learn it, or remain doing Windows only and limit
your capabilities of your own choosing.
