This is my new 71 TiB DIY NAS. This server is the successor to my six
year old, twenty drive 18 TB NAS (17 TiB). With a storage capacity four
times higher than the original and an incredible read (2.5 GB/s)/write
   (1.9 GB/s) performance, it's a worthy successor.

Holy crap. I'm at 4TB on a ZFS system, and I already feel like I'm
living in the lap of luxury. What would I do with 71 TB? I'm at less
than 10% on my current system? (Kidding: bytes are like suitcases; your
stuff expands to fill the available space).

Similar here. 3.64TB total on a three drive Raid5 array, although I'm
running lvm, mdadm and ext4 on it. Out of the 3.64TB only 1.89TB is
actually in use, and of that, 1.49TB is the space allocated to the DVR
at the moment.

The only way I see him needing 71TB is if he is his own video studio,
and he's got hours of raw 2k or 4k footage stored in the array.

I have 7.5 TB on tap, using Greyhole. It runs pretty well on modest
hardware (host system is an AMD A4-3300 with 4 GB of RAM), allows use of
different disk sizes (currently two 3 TB drives and one 1.5 TB drive), and
allows selective redundancy by optionally keeping multiple copies of a file
on different drives. I use no redundancy for video and music as those files
get backed up to BD-R stored offsite. Documents, photos, and the Subversion
repository get two copies of everything stored as their contents would be
harder to replace if lost (photos get backed up to BD-R, while documents are
backed up at Tarsnap). If a drive craps out (it's already happened more
than once), files that were stored with redundancy are copied again to one
of the good drives.
