There are also other possibilities (not an exhaustive list): 1) many sheep went ga-ga over the "newest cool toy" - but after getting it for a while they found it too limiting overall and are returning to purchasing true general purpose devices. 2) many had limited budgets for "new toys" - buying the latest "cool new toy" blew out the budget so the other "toys" saw a drop in purchasing. Now, after having purchased one of the "new toys" they don't need a second tablet, and/or have found they still need a PC afterall.

I was late to the game by other people's standards, but still bought a Nexus 7 for me and an ipad for the Missus. Played with them for a while, thought I'd be better off with a Bluetooth keyboard and bought that, and finally decided they were good for what I do with half the day, but the other half of the day I still need (and want) a beefy computer, real keyboard, and apps I'm used to using for project management, writing, calculating, etc. The tablets remain awesome for traveling, reading, and surfing the web. I don't even really use them that often for typing out an email. So in a year or so I'll be looking for a replacement for my worn out PC. I kind of suspect something like this is happening. Tablets are great for lots of people, and especially for people who read but don't write. Everyone else still needs a PC sooner or later, and they don't last forever.

Although my definition of beefy is a 2010 27" i5 iMac with a 500GB SSD. I'm often inclined to throw money at trivial problems, but I honestly can't see a need to upgrade, and I use some quite testing software (GIS, video, MS Windows and Office (;-)) etc). Not really games though - just some mid-90s strategy games on the Windows partition. -- Cheers, Rob

Yay. I am not a fan of tablets, touch screen devices, etc. I still
prefer old fashion computers with clicky keyboards. Even a slow netbook
would do! :D

want to be an ant. You know? I mean, it's like we go through life with
our antennae bouncing off one another, continously on ant autopilot,
with nothing really human required of us. 'Stop.' 'Go.' 'Walk here.'
'Drive there.' All action basically for survival. All communication
simply to keep this ant colony buzzing along in an efficient, polite
manner. 'Here's your change.' 'Paper or plastic?' 'Credit or debit?"'
'You want ketchup with that' I don't want a straw. I want real human
moments. I want to see you. I want you to see me. I don't want to give
that up. I don't want to be ant, you know?" "Yeah... yeah I know. I
don't want to be an ant either. Thanks for kinda, like, josteling me
there... I've been kinda on zombie autopilot lately. I don't feel like
an ant in my head, but I guess I probably look like one..." --Waking
