Check out www.pipedot.org today, where Brian has carried on a noble
tradition by redoing the site's graphics in awful colors and fonts, and
called it "Pipedot Beta." Too funny.

Neither Soylent nor Slashdot did that this year, which is kind of too
bad. It would have been fun to see who can outdo OMG Ponies, probably
the best April Fools joke ever.

Brian is having the last laugh of course: he took the time to do Pipedot
in proper CSS so changes like this are dead simple to make. I like
slashcode, but I've got to say that OMG Ponies joke must have been
damned hard to pull off given all the hardcoded stuff in the code.

I'll carry on the tradition here on Usenet by posting this article in
Comic Sans font. Can you see it?

I'm just glad he didn't use too many of the other options from the
"Pet peevs of web design" poll. Can you imagine if he had included
<blink> tags? :)

Fortunately not.

Hmmm. That site looks ok to me? I must have bad taste :(

Well done. There's a guy by the name of Jeff Relf over on
news.software.readers (and elsewhere) that posts endless versions of
messages like that. His stuff actually makes a good test for your
newsreader to see how well it does with offbeat UTF-8 stuff, but after
one or two messages it gets tiring.

Happy 1st of April!

I found his posts tiresome enough that he found his way into my killfile at
some point. Usually it's reserved for spammers and trolls.

Cheers.
