I don't plan on posting this PSA regularly, but thought it might be worth doing it just this once.

1. A couple weeks ago we took a stab at a charter. It's here, if
anyone would like to read, modify, or discuss:
http://compmisc.wikia.com/wiki/Comp.misc_newsgroup_Wiki

2. I am trying to post comp related things here. Non-comp stuff is
going to misc.news.internet.discuss (astronomy, biology, physics,
social media, gaming). I'm crossposting to relevant other groups where
it seems that's helpful, and hopefully that leads people to other NGs
as well.

3. I have no pretense of being the official news poster, by any means.
Please help post things you think would be interesting to discuss. I'm
trying to notice articles that don't get discussed so I can avoid
posting more of the same, and trying to keep a variety of subjects
fresh so there's not too much of any one subject.

4. I've shared my posting script on this newsgroup if anyone else would
like to use it to keep interesting content here.

Lastly, for what it's worth, watching Soylent implode makes me even
more grateful to have this interesting group to chat with - this is the
first place I visit every morning now. Usenet is still proving its
worth, nearly 20 years after I first started using it!

Looks good to me. I'll keep all of that in mind :)

Ditto. I'm new here, but I'm really loving usenet so far. I've
been checking for new articles here more frequently than I check my
email :P

Health warning: usenet can be habit-forming ;))

While Usenet is obviously not the same as a web site, since many of us are
here due to the changes at Slashdot, a change of mindset may be required
before more people start posting. I for one know that I find miself reading
this newsgroup as if it were a news site. I'd say please keep posting what
you find interesting :)

Well, FWIW, this is my first serious attempt at using usenet after several
short-lived experiments, I got my first PC and internet access at a time
when using the Usenet was already going out of fashion (around 2001, when I
was 16...), so I didn't live that golden time so many of you old-timers seem
to be so nostalgic about, with BBSs, Usenet, Gopher, and all that :)

Cheers!

I dunno if it was a "golden time", I was too late for that, but I
started gating newsgroups into my BBS in the late '90s, just before
the BBS scene collapsed. And I've followed a couple of other ngs (been
active in one) since then, mostly because Agent, and then
Thunderbird, made it pretty easy.

Seems like a rational plan. So far I am surprised that this group
hasn't been overrun with trolls yet, but it seems that the really
dedicated ones are running out of steam in their old age or something.
Thanks for the effort.

I just convinced an old buddy of mine to get re-involved with Usenet so
that's a good sign. I think that lots of people are getting burned out
on the typical web forums.
