It appears bitcoin’s recent turmoil has claimed its first life.

Autumn Radtke, a 28-year-old American CEO of bitcoin exchange firm First
Meta, was found dead in her Singapore apartment on Feb. 28.

Local media are calling it a suicide, but Singapore officials are waiting
for toxicology test results.

Radtke formerly worked with Apple and other Silicon Valley tech firms on
developing digital payment systems.

Radtke’s death brings the number of questionable financial sector deaths
this year to eight.

I can only imagine they both realized too late they were in way over
their heads, had ruined other peoples' lives, and would probably be
called to justice one way or another.

I can also only imagine that the parent post being crossposted to two
incendiary political newsgroups is going to lead to an onslaught of
craziness here [straps on helmet and flame-proof suit].

It's the methane. :nods:

(And yes, it is usable and used as fuel. :p)

Siberia is filled with small villages where they routinely burn feces
from their livestock to heat their homes and cook food. Not a lot
of trees around there. I've seen pictures of children from these
villages who have the job of walking around and gathering it all up.

I guess it works just fine, but I'm not sure I could ever get used to
the smell...

It does seem to be a pity that they don't use the shit as fertilizer, as
nature intended. The lack of trees may also be a result of
unsustainable practices.

The high-tech approach is of course to 'digest' the shit to extract the
methane etc for use as fuel, leaving the solid and liquid fractions as
(relatively) sterile fertilizer.

There are certain communities who do exactly this sort of thing, but
they are few and far between, possibly because of the cost of setting up
all the equipment for the distilling and refining.

Another problem of course is the recent carbon taxing hype. I'm not in
the US, but as I gather, US farmers already have to pay extra taxes
because their cows fart. I mean, come on guys... :p

<flame bait>

If Obama cares so much about shit stains on the American flag, then
perhaps he should care a little more about the blood stains on it
   first.

Settlers in the Old US West burnt animal shit. It burnt without much
smoke, and avoided unwanted interesst. I remember a story of settlers
in New Mexico who were delighted when they` found an old sheep pen.
(This would be old, dried out, not straight from the gut)

You might be surprised to learn that this is Ancient Knowledge(tm).
Our earliest of nomadic ancestors have known about this shit for
countless millenia.

It's not even 'Lost Knowledge'. You can ask almost any modern day
nomadic tribesman about the best ways of burning shit if you can get
hold of their cell phone number. :-)

Well, it is not certain it was suicide, and if it was we don't know if it
was related to BitCoin:
